"We moved into a home in Lakeway that had outdated, scratched, shiny cherry wood flooring and filthy carpets. We were prepared to tear everything out and start from scratch if necessary. Kevin and Shelly promptly responded to our inquiry, sat down with us, walked us patiently through all our options and built a plan that met our needs. As others have commented, they listened to what we wanted and did not pressure us to do more than we were comfortable with. We were able to refinish the wood floors and upgrade the carpet at a reasonable price. The contractors were professional, courteous, efficient and competent. There were a few midstream changes that I made which were handled cheerfully by Kevin and his team even though they weren’t part of the original plan. A few weeks after the job was done another contractor damaged the wood floor finish and although we haven’t yet resolved the repair, Kevin continues to be responsive and helpful. There are a lot of choices out there for flooring and a lot of contractors providing services. Kevin and his team delivered a solution that was right for us and a quality result that we are proud to own."

"Saul did an amazing job on my garage floor. He worked with my schedule and was able to get everything completed in the time I needed it done. I’m so happy with how my garage looks. Plus, he had the best pricing for the same quality work that I found with other companies."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

If you’re doing a full bathroom remodel, the flooring will go in before the vanity and any other bathroom cabinetry. This will ensure that the same floor is present across your whole bathroom should you ever tear out your vanity and start again.

If you can only budget for one or the other, you can still replace just the vanity in your bathroom. Just keep in mind that if you decide to replace your flooring later, you’ll need to tear out the vanity to avoid having mismatched floors.

Without walls, other options to quiet an open space are to add noise-dampening materials like rugs, carpets, curtains, and soft furniture. These can act as a barrier to block and absorb sound. More expensive alternatives include acoustic panels, room dividers and temporary walls, and more advanced soundproofing.

You can get away with stretching the carpet with some remaining items of furniture, so long as you have ready access to the parts of the carpet that require maintenance and you are not stretching through the furniture, as this leads to tears and fraying. Try to remove at least 50% of the furniture if you can’t remove it all.

It’s a good idea to install a rug pad under the carpet for your stairs. To make the pad fit, you’ll need to cut one section for each stair tread that’s about one inch narrower than the stair runner so that it won’t be visible once the carpet is installed on top.

If the installer is unwilling to fix the problems and you’re not interested in seeking remediation, you could hide a visually unpleasant floor. This will only work if the floor is structurally sound and the only issue you have is the way it looks. The easiest way to do this is to use large area rugs. You can also paint the floor, although that’s a labor-intensive job if you want to go the DIY route.
