"I contacted 2 Bros Painting Pros to have some exterior work done. I spoke with Juan, the owner, and he gave me an estimate which was very reasonable. He and his brother sealed pavers and applied epoxy paint to the concrete floor on my patio. They were detailed and did an excellent job. I will be using them to stain my fence. I highly recommend 2 Bros Painting Pros."

"I have a very large multi-level deck with a partial lattice roof. Jim's price was higher than others, but I felt he would do a better job. I was not wrong. He was very professional, courteous, charismatic and trust worthy. He was a pleasure to work with, making suggestions for the best outcome. I was concerned about feeling comfortable with a contractor as I was mostly alone. Jim treated me with the up most respect, answering all my questions without talking down to me. I am so pleased with his work. He took the time and care to do the job right. I was surprised that he did two complete coats of stain to make sure the wood was covered properly. He also made minor repairs as needed to give a perfect finished project. I selected a color change and Jim made sure the color was applied evenly. He took great care in protecting the house and plantings around the deck and worked to disrupt things as little as possible. I will not hesitate to use his services again and I recommend him with no reservations. He is well worth the extra money and will do an excellent job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

The best paint for an older deck depends on the material and whether or not your deck already has a coat of paint. Generally, if your deck already has paint on it, you should choose the same type of paint when repainting the deck. For example, if an old deck has oil-based paint on it, stick with oil; if your deck has water-based paint, choose water-based paint.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

The plastic in composite decking boards protects them enough that you do not need to paint them to prevent warping. In fact, painting composite decking voids the warranty of some manufacturers. Painting can also increase maintenance on the deck, as you must paint regularly to keep it looking its best.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.
