"He did a great job at building exactly what I had in mind. It was a 7 ft privacy fence with a concrete footer. I also asked him to stain it and it looks so amazing. I am relieved and feel like my children are safer playing in the backyard now."

"Greg and his crew did a great job with trees and beds. Price was great compared to what a couple other companies were going to charge for just trees. Cleaned up and made everything look nice and fresh."

"Hector was amazing. He did everything we needed from assembling our pool table to hanging 5 tvs in our house which included hiding the cables behind the wall for a cleaner look. I mentioned our outside doors not latching properly and he immediately knew what it was and had it fixed in a half hour. He is our new go to for everything!!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

Cold temperatures can make your deck boards contract. If they don’t contract evenly, they can put pressure on the deck screws and cause them to pop out, making a noticeable sound. Winterizing your deck can help prevent this from happening.

Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.
