"Our salesman was Travis. He came out to give us a quote for insulating our attached garage only. The attached garage had NO insulation in the attic. Travis was prompt and very polite. He took the time to explain the Mio Insulation product. He showed us a visual comparison of the Milex with cellulose and fiberglass insulation. He went into the attic to see how much insulation we already had over the living area. After visiting with Travis and doing our own research, we decided to add insulation to our existing (living area) attic insulation and insulate the attic of our attached garage. The insulation was prompt and efficient. The installers were very polite and cleaned up any mess they made. The process was very efficient and enjoyable."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You won’t find anything inside a cupola on a house because it’s hollow (think of an upside-down cup), allowing air to ventilate out of a roof via vents and light to come in via windows. They also usually have a base, vents around the middle (usually louvers), and a pointed cap at the top.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

Yes, guiding choices between open-cell and closed-cell foams based on needs.

Yes, insulating hot water pipes helps your system run more efficiently. This is especially true in basements in colder climates, where cold air likes to settle in. There are a few ways to insulate water pipes (foam is common) to keep hot water hot, reducing the need for your water heater to constantly heat the water in the tank or your circulator to kick on more than necessary.

Air sealing isn't necessary for attic insulation, but it's incredibly helpful since it can help you identify and patch any existing air leaks. Failing to find these leaks before adding insulation can render your insulation less effective, leading to higher energy bills and potentially costly repairs down the line.
