"I absolutely love my new fence. Thank you Texas Fence. I was not sure who to have install my fence. I found by researching Texas Fence that they have been in business for twenty years, are a member of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating, and had wonderful reviews. Adriana Medina (sales consultant) came and took measurements. She listened to what I wanted in my new fence and made a few suggestions. She was very easy to talk to and knowledgeable about fences. Jose Garcia and his helper (fence installers) took down the old fence and put up the new fence. Jose put up a cedar board on board fence, made three walk through gates, and a double wide gate. Jose and his helper did a fantastic job. You can tell they take pride in their work. Les Perkins (project manager) answered any questions I had about the project. Dave Malcom (fence technician) came and did a little fine tuning. He also came up with a clever way to hide the 1 inch gap in the double wide gate that I could see into the backyard. I know that wouldn't bother anyone else, but it bothered me. Now, thanks to Dave, it's perfect. I would definitely recommend Texas Fence. I'm very pleased with my new fence."

"My family along with eleven other neighbors all researched fencing companies and obtained bids from a half dozen, ultimately selected Stand Strong Fencing in the The Woodlands, TX. Working with Steve and Lucy, the owners, was seamless and easy. They were professional, made themselves available to answer questions, provided an in home presentation to those that were interested, and handled all of the township permitting paperwork for each of us. They set up a construction and installation schedule that met all of our needs and completed the work in a timely manner. I highly recommend Stand Strong Fencing."

"Awesome company to work with! They were fast (both initially and during installation) and very fair on price. The crew was very meticulous about cleaning up the job site, hauling away all old fencing, and making it look like they were never there. My new fence is beautiful!"

Small jobs welcome

"Brian was very professional and is super people friendly. He replaced a fence that was built by fence builders/lawn mowing co. and it was a crocked warped nightmare. All Brain does for a living is build fences and it shows in the quality workmanship and material. His prices are not out of line and you surely get what you pay for!"

"I had a Wrought Iron fence that had some rusty posts and needed to be painted. I went with As Good As New, LLC and they sent Jonathan. In my opinion he is a master iron worker, doing a fantastic job. It looks "As Good As New"."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

A wrought iron fence is generally considered a worthwhile investment, provided the cost fits your budget and its characteristics meet your needs. While it is an expensive material, its exceptional durability and longevity mean you can save money over time by not having to replace it.

Key benefits include:

  • Durability and Security: Wrought iron is strong and provides excellent security for your home.

  • Longevity: With proper maintenance, it can last a lifetime or longer.

  • Aesthetics: It offers a classy, timeless, and elegant look that can boost your home's curb appeal and property value, especially when complementing brick or stone architecture.

However, it's important to note that wrought iron fencing does not offer much privacy. If professionally installed and maintained, it is a sound long-term investment.

Pickets should sit at least 2 inches off the ground to encourage groundwater to flow underneath. Pickets can sit as much as 6 inches off the ground, but setting it any higher could let pets in or out of your yard unintentionally. These are not to be confused with the fence posts anchored underground with soil or concrete footing.

Whether you need a permit to build or install a fence depends on several factors, including your location, the fence's height, its placement in your yard, and the materials used. In many cities and highly populated areas, a permit is required, especially for fences taller than 6 feet. Conversely, rural areas may have fewer restrictions. Typically, backyard privacy fences 6 feet or shorter do not require a permit, while front yard fences often have a lower height limit, sometimes as low as 3.5 feet. There can also be exceptions for properties in mixed residential-commercial zones. It's best to check with your local building inspection or zoning department to understand the specific requirements, height restrictions, and location rules for your area. A professional fence installer can help you navigate this process and often secure the necessary permits for you, though this may extend the project timeline.

Ideally, when you replace a fence post, you should also replace the concrete footing. The concrete bonds to your new post, creating a secure base. If you install a new post into old concrete, it won’t be as sturdy.

That said, it is possible. Sometimes the post will lift right out of the concrete. If not, you can use a high-lift car jack to try and lift the pole out of the footing. Put the new post into the same hole and backfill it with fast-setting concrete. Keep in mind, this won’t work well for metal posts.

The maximum recommended slope on which you can build a racked or stepped fence is 45 degrees. After that, construction becomes quite tricky and may require the use of retaining walls or terraces to make the fenced area flatter.
