"Working with San Marcos Drywall Repair, and w Garrett, was so stress free and easy. His bids came in the best and the speed at which the work was accomplished was mind boggling. He made all the deadlines and came in on budget. Not only drywall, but grouting, painting, anything I asked he and his crew were capable of handling. I will call them every time. They make it easy and they listen. I always got a call back when I needed something, unfailing honest. What more can you ask for?"

"Jon did a fantastic job, he was professional, polite, and respectful. Helped me patch a hole in the dry wall. Will be hiring him again for future repairs. (The paint match in the photos is my fault that it didn’t match)"

"I highly recommend ASAP Home Doctor Mike finished my main closet with wood shelves and a bar for hangers. Also, all the guys worked on the exterior wood failures, replacing some and caaulking the cracks to prevent future failures. The painting was done to perfection as well. I am very pleased with their work and will definitely use them again."

"The entire process went great with Steve and his crew. He is very responsive, provides updates, and did great work. They were very conscious about protecting the rooms they had to walk through to do the work in the bathroom, and did a good job cleaning up after. I would definitely recommend Finishing Touches for any type of bathroom renovation work."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can speed up the time it takes for plaster to dry, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid issues like cracking or crumbling. Proper ventilation is key; open a window or use a fan to circulate air in the room. Heat can also accelerate drying, but be cautious, as too much heat can cause the plaster to dry too quickly and crack. Check the plaster's packaging for the recommended drying temperature and set the room's thermostat accordingly. While managing humidity is important, avoid using a dehumidifier, which can remove moisture too aggressively and result in crumbly plaster.

The best tool for cutting a hole in drywall is a drywall saw. Its serrated blade and ergonomic design make it efficient for both straight cuts and more intricate shapes, ensuring clean and precise results in various drywall cutting applications.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.

Whether you need drywall anchors depends on your specific project, particularly where you are hanging an item. Drywall anchors are not necessary if you can drive a screw directly into a wooden stud behind the wall, as the stud provides sufficient support. However, since studs are not present everywhere in a wall, you will need to use drywall anchors if you are hanging an object in a location without a stud. For very lightweight items, picture hanging strips can also be a suitable alternative.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.
