"We couldn't be more pleased with the added insulation in the attic above the garage. Only downside is that it's better done than the rest of the attic! The rest of the work replacing the insulation in water-damaged areas went very quickly. We will likely be bringing them back to do the rest of the attic."

"Geo-Insulation was a pleasure to work with for blown-in insulation. During our first interaction with the owner, he arrived on time and was very professional, giving us an accurate and competitive quote for blown in insulation. The quote provided to us was the best value for the money, and the company even took care of filing for an energy efficiency rebate with CPS, saving us additional money. On the day of installation of the blown in insulation, he and his team arrived promptly and was very friendly and professional. I was expecting the job to be very noisy and messy, but the process was very quiet and the team cleaned up after themselves (I was even able to hold a virtual meeting during the installation process!). Geo-Insulation also offered to come back and touch up the insulation in a few months after some of the material settles. After analyzing the work, we are very happy with the job that Geo-Insulation performed and would definitely use the company again. We are also happy to support a veteran owned, local, small business!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

You should not leave drywall outside, especially overnight or in a wet, humid climate. Exposure to rain and humidity can damage the drywall, weakening its structural integrity and making it susceptible to mold growth. If you must leave drywall outside during a project, be sure to cover it with a tarp or keep it inside a storage shed to protect it. Even drywall intended for exterior projects requires a protective moisture barrier. For best results, store any extra drywall in a dry area away from the elements.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.
