"These guys were incredible! Not only did they stain my deck with the proper product, but they replaced boards that were warped or rotten. They were reliable and traveled more than an hour to get here each day until they were finished. I would recommend them for any kind of paint job."

"We had not re-stained the door in over 9 years, so the wood was very dry and the original stain was badly faded.  My husband didn't have time to stain the door, so I was thrilled to see the offer through Angie's List.  Brad at Carnival did a great job of communicating with me.  We were getting a lot of rain, so the job had to be postponed several times - but Brad always let me know.  When his employee came, he carefully covered the floor, sanded the door, stained it, and cleaned up.  I was surprised that he didn't apply a sealer, but when I called Brad about it he told me that the stain had a built in sealer.  Still, he offered to come out and give our door a 2nd coat.  His employee came out a few days later to sand and re-stain the door - and it looks great.  I'd definitely use Carnival Custom Painting again.

Small jobs welcome

"Nic and Todd did a wonderful job and now you can't tell that the stains were ever there. They showed on the scheduled date and time and went about the job in a very professional manner. Even did a few extra items for me. Great Team!"

"When I originally contacted Jessie's Painting to schedule our project and to discuss particulars, Jessie recommended using an oil-based stain.  Since neither the fence, nor the deck railing had ever been stained, an oil-based stain would penetrate the wood better and provide better protection.  We purchased the stain from Sherwin Williams and could not be happier with our experience or the quality of the stain.  The painter, Jimmy Ybarra, arrived on the morning of 2/3/16, as scheduled, and, after being shown what we wanted, began working on the deck railing. He was very professional, and meticulous about his work.  He kept his work area clean and orderly.  After finishing the railing, he began the job of staining our fence.  Being concerned with wind, he suggested brushing the fence instead of spraying it.  Brushing the stain on the fence took longer than we originally anticipated, but the results, in our opinion, were worth it.  We have  had many compliments from friends and neighbors.  I will use Jessie's Painting on our next project and can recommend them with confidence.

"If I could give Steve an A+, I would give it in every category. He and his helper Brian are the nicest, friendliest, most courteous and most professional contractors I’ve ever worked with. Steve’s tile work is beautiful. I couldn’t be happier. Since their next job wasn’t starting for a few days, I asked them to repair some rotting wood on my deck stairs, replace some blades on a ceiling fan and replace an outside faucet. They are a talented duo and strive for perfection in all their work. I already have plans to hire them for another project."

"The owner and the painters were very professional and friendly. The workers started by cleaning the surfaces to be painted and re-caulking everything. They painted the siding one color, and the fascia, soffits, entry doors and garage door a different color. They replaced several trim boards. I also had them reseal the cedar boards on the deck cover. The cleanup was great."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Hangers are one way of attaching stair stringers to a deck. These metal hangers are usually adjustable, allowing you to find the ideal angle for a secure installation. They’re the best choice for installing longer staircases, such as one on a two-story deck, to reduce the load on the deck frame while keeping the stairs stable.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.
