"These guys were incredible! Not only did they stain my deck with the proper product, but they replaced boards that were warped or rotten. They were reliable and traveled more than an hour to get here each day until they were finished. I would recommend them for any kind of paint job."

"Carnival painting did a fantastic job.  I had pickled cabinets that were maple with a grey wash on them from the 90's.  They were in need of a makeover.  I had 3 different companies come out and look at the job and provide a quote.  I was impressed with Brad from the beginning.  He understood what I wanted, white cabinets and black on the island.  He explained the process and answered all my questions.  Carnival, I felt, was the best deal for the quality they promised and a guarantee was also provided.  His crew showed up and spent most of the 1st day with many guys prepping and sanding everything.  They covered my floors and granite and appliances, as well as putting plastic draping around the entire kitchen. They applied a primer to all the cabinets.  The next few days they completed painting the kitchen cabinets.  Brad then came back and we did a walk through to make sure the job was done properly.  Tere were some small touch ups that needed completed and he sent one of his crew out and took care of everything in a few hours.  Brad made sure I was satisfied with the job, and then sent me the guarantee.  I love the makeover.  I will call Brad again soon for other painting that I need done.  They do all kinds of panting jobs. I would recommend them for any job!

Small jobs welcome

"If you want a really great painter hands down (believe me I have worked with 8 other painters in the past that were a night mare) call Nick Kisley from Ace in the Hole Painting tel:210-941-4178 Schertz, Texas, [*** Link removed ***] you will love him. He just finished repairing damaged sheetrock in our bedroom closet from a old roof leak we had that was previously repaired (yrs .ago )very poorly. He did a beautiful job. He taped ,floated and matched the texture perfectly, u can not tell it was a repair job.I interviewed a bunch of painters and he was the best, prices are fair ,he is very dependable , (came every day on time ,and texted me twice per my request ie.when he was on his way and again when he got to my gate)easy to work with (really listened to what I wanted him to do ,used the products I requested and gave me his professional opinion as well )and takes pride in his work,(made sure I was happy with the job, did not skimp on supplies, properly prepared the site to my expectations, cleaned up after himself in a professional manner, respecting my wishes as to where he could clean his hopper etc. ) He also responds very quickly to your request for a bid and request for references then any other painter or contractor I have worked with.He also responds very quickly to any questions/concerns pre and post job .All his past clients I talked to ,love his work and he has all positive reviews on Angie's list, not one neg. comment. He does all of his own work with a helper, he does not subcontract it out .He is very good at taping and floating and painting. He painted our entire closet ,walls, ceilings , base boards and inside closet door. He also power washed our metal pool fence, step railings and patio /pool area and for our pool fence and step railings he sanded down the rust spots and primed those spots and painted our fence with DTM Sherwin Williams paint and it looks great. Also he even picked up some extra paint I requested for a small project I am doing and gave me his store discount and he also gave me advise on what color he recommended and how to properly paint the gate and even hooked up my trailer to my pilot when I had trouble doing it twice .He is a gem.I highly recommend him.Read his reviews on Angie's List: ,just put his co.name in the search bar.Any questions feel free to call me 210-861-3107.Can send before and after pictures of jobs done per reqest if contact info. given."

"I recently posted two jobs I wanted help with on Angi’s list. Anthony, the owner of Artista Painters and Remodelers was the first company to reach out to me. I could tell quickly that he truly enjoys what he does and that he seemed very credible. He was able to go to my house the same day we spoke and he provided me a reasonable quote. He also mentioned he thought my front door needed some attention and I agreed with him. The next day he and his team started the job. They redid two fence posts so the gates could close easily and sanded and stained my front door. They also polished my granite counters in my kitchen. He communicated well during the job which I appreciated as I was out of town. I am very pleased with his professionalism l, his rates, and his solid communication. I look forward to working with him on other projects."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Staining a deck is typically less expensive upfront than painting. The cost to stain a deck professionally averages around $850, with most homeowners paying between $550 and $1,250, depending on the deck's size. A DIY staining project can cost less than $100. The cost to paint a deck ranges from $500 to $2,000. While the initial cost of staining is lower, it's important to consider long-term expenses. Paint can last up to 10 years, whereas stain needs to be reapplied every few years, which could lead to higher costs over time.

Provided conditions are ideal, staining an entire deck should take as little as a couple of hours and up to a couple of days to apply and cure. Additional procedures, like sealing a deck or using additional treatments, may extend the project by a few additional days.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
