"Carnival painting did a fantastic job.  I had pickled cabinets that were maple with a grey wash on them from the 90's.  They were in need of a makeover.  I had 3 different companies come out and look at the job and provide a quote.  I was impressed with Brad from the beginning.  He understood what I wanted, white cabinets and black on the island.  He explained the process and answered all my questions.  Carnival, I felt, was the best deal for the quality they promised and a guarantee was also provided.  His crew showed up and spent most of the 1st day with many guys prepping and sanding everything.  They covered my floors and granite and appliances, as well as putting plastic draping around the entire kitchen. They applied a primer to all the cabinets.  The next few days they completed painting the kitchen cabinets.  Brad then came back and we did a walk through to make sure the job was done properly.  Tere were some small touch ups that needed completed and he sent one of his crew out and took care of everything in a few hours.  Brad made sure I was satisfied with the job, and then sent me the guarantee.  I love the makeover.  I will call Brad again soon for other painting that I need done.  They do all kinds of panting jobs. I would recommend them for any job!

"I recently posted two jobs I wanted help with on Angi’s list. Anthony, the owner of Artista Painters and Remodelers was the first company to reach out to me. I could tell quickly that he truly enjoys what he does and that he seemed very credible. He was able to go to my house the same day we spoke and he provided me a reasonable quote. He also mentioned he thought my front door needed some attention and I agreed with him. The next day he and his team started the job. They redid two fence posts so the gates could close easily and sanded and stained my front door. They also polished my granite counters in my kitchen. He communicated well during the job which I appreciated as I was out of town. I am very pleased with his professionalism l, his rates, and his solid communication. I look forward to working with him on other projects."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.
