"Contacted this company for the repair of our Asko dishwasher and they scheduled someone to be onsite the next day. The technician that arrived was a subcontractor and not an employee of Houston Asko Repair. He was inexperienced and highly unprofessional. After several calls to the original service company to seek help it was determined that due to the circumstances of the repair and the lack of assistance from the original service company that it was necessary to have the technician leave our home. The technician was vulgar and disrespectful to me and my wife and wanted payment for a job that he was unable to complete. I requested the original service company engage with the technician; however they declined. It required us to call the local police to remove this person from our home. The invoice for the service diagnosis, parts, and repair was for a company called The Appliance Repairmen and I suspect they are nothing more than brokers for contract labor. They receive the payment for the initial service diagnosis. The technician is paid for all parts and the labor. The labor is a floating price as determined by the technician. None of this is or the fact that the technician is a contractor was communicated on the front end by either the original service company or the technician. We will not be using this service again and would not recommend their service to anyone. I would recommend that if you require appliance service that you query the service company to ensure you are getting a quoted fair price and that the company has their own (W2) employees as contractors are paid by the job and can charge what they think they can get. Try to mitigate all surprises. This company appears to be affiliated with The Appliance Repairmen and possibly Grapevine GE Repair/The Appliance Repair (877-917-1015)."

Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

Sometimes, replacing instead of repairing your electric stove might save you more in the long run. Is your cooktop reaching the end of its life span? Has it had other issues frequently over the past few months? These are all signs getting a new stove altogether might make more financial sense. Upgrading your stove also has a positive impact on your property’s value.

In most cases, it’s worth hiring a professional installer to place and connect your appliances. Appliances like a washer and dryer are heavy and bulky, so they can be dangerous and challenging to maneuver into your home, especially if you have to move up or down stairs. Some appliance manufacturers might void your warranty or portions of it if your appliance is installed incorrectly, which is more likely to happen with a DIY installation. Additionally, any appliances requiring connections to gas or water lines should only be handled by professional installers for safety reasons.

Yes, many services include removal and disposal of old microwaves. Confirm with your installer.

You can convert a gas heater to electric, but it isn’t as simple as swapping a plug or two. First of all, you need to make sure there’s adequate power to the unit, as electric units require much higher power amounts versus gas. Then, you need to close off the gas lines and ventilation. Make sure you don’t also need a permit for an electric water heater—some cities require it. Making the switch can cost upwards of $1,500.

Choosing between a gas vs. electric dryer comes down to individual needs. A gas dryer tends to have faster drying times and is more energy-efficient, which may be a better choice for you if you have access to affordable natural gas and have a high volume of laundry. However, an electric dryer has a lower upfront cost, is easier to install, and may be more suitable if your home doesn’t have a gas connection. When determining which type of dryer is best for you, factors such as energy costs, installation requirements, budgets, and personal preferences should be considered.
