"We had Jordan come out several times to bid and revise bids on a major kitchen-laundry room remodel.  He was always professional and very knowledgeable about what we were asking. He had his cabinet guy come out and meet with me and I was impressed in his suggestions and depth of knowledge.  He made me feel at ease in describing how certain things were done and gave me plenty of options to consider.Although we didn't end up going with Jordan (Dominion), we will definitely consider him for a future remodel project!"

"We have 4 kids and our home was last painted (over 3 years ago) with low quality flat paint .. so the walls had become old and dirty looking due to high contact.  In addition, we needed other cosmetic repairs e.g. holes in walls, door / frame replacement
A good friend recommended Timberline, giving them high marks on Professionalism, Service and Quality.  I scheduled appointment for walk-through estimate with Timberline.   A few days later, during the walk-through, we were presented several options to fit my budget including paint (including color / scheme) and repair recommendations.
We agreed on itemized list of service that was completed in 3 days as planned.  In addition to beautifully painted (latex wipeable walls), we got other much needed repairs. I couldn't be happier with the process and final results.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.
