"Hired them about 8 months ago and the job went fine. Had work done on our veranda and dust was everywhere, so called them a couple of weeks ago, and due to the weather, 2 cases of flu (ours, not theirs) we had to change the date several times - to which they were very accommodating and flexible. As before, it was remarkable how much clearer our windows are!"

"This was an unusual screen room that required a lot of skill. John and his team were excellent. The project flowed very quickly, the quality of workmanship was superb and I am very, very pleased with my new room. After working with John and his team, I would not trust anyone else with an outdoor construction project and I would absolutely hire John again. Thank you for my new room, John, Sommer and everyone else at Capital Construction Services"

"The work went great. I found a water stain in my ceiling after a recent storm, and I wanted to get the repair done before the next rainstorm in the forecast. I spoke to Alex, and he showed a real interest in getting the job done and asked for any pictures that I had that could help him assess the job. He was able to help me out and get the repair done right away. He even showed me that there were some exposed nailheads (that should have been sealed by a previous contractor but weren't) and took care of that as well. The price was competitive (I quoted with another roofing company), and I am very satisfied."

"We contacted Dominion and was put in touch with the owner Jordan. Although they currently had several high priority jobs ongoing, Jordan agreed to fit our job into their already packed schedule. My mother-in-law was coming to visit in a few short weeks and Jordan was able to somehow get everything done so that the house was polished when she arrived for her visit.
From the excellent communication to the stellar quality of the work, we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Incredible attention to detail, no corner cutting, and very reasonable pricing.
We won't hesitate to use Jordan again for our bathroom remodels and upcoming addition we're planning. Thankful we found Jordan on Angie's List and will recommend in a heartbeat to friends and family."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?
