"Sometimes they don't tell the truth Power quoted a price on replacing our 30 year old aluminum windows with Pella windows and what Home Depot or Andersen would charge. Their price was only good right then. You can't just call and get a competitive quote on windows. So we believed them and bought the windows ($37k). The Pella windows are good, but Power mismeasured. They said their measurements were within 1/4". But one window had 2" and 1.5" gaps on the sides. So 35% of the opening is the window frame and vinyl strips. I complained and they said that was for insulation. BS! They wouldn't replace the mis-measured window. They later gave us a quote to replace our roof with architectural shingles. The quote was $62k for 48.5 squares. They said any roofer would charge $48k to replace our roof, but their price was $44k but only if purchased now. My friend owns a roofing company. He had given me a price of $17k for similar products. So Power lied about what other contractors would charge"

Gaps between tiles are necessary to help with weatherproofing, allow for thermal expansion, and increase wind resistance. In general, a small gap no larger than 3 millimeters wide will encourage proper drainage and limit cracking. Beyond that, tiles should overlap a minimum of 3 inches, except at the eaves where they should extend to the center of the gutter.

Roof work is dangerous and exacting, and a misstep could lead to even more costly repairs, so we do not recommend DIYing. If you are dead set on giving it a go, practice safety measures. Wear a harness, only work during mild weather, and have a partner to help. Potentially DIY-friendly jobs include patching up small leaks, sealing areas around the chimney, and replacing a few shingles.

An impact-resistant roof can last between 30 and 50 years, depending on how much wear and tear it receives.

It is not always necessary to put wood stripping (also called furring strips) under a metal roof, but some metal roofs require stripping to work efficiently. For example, you must use furring strips when installing metal over shingles in order to connect the shingles to the metal roofing. These strips are made of metal or wood. They create thermal breaks and provide a solid frame to which you can attach the metal roofing. A lack of wood stripping can cause condensation issues under certain roofs, so use the roofing manufacturer’s specifications as your guide.
