"I chose Prestige because they quoted a fair price for the work I needed. I am recommending them because their staff were courteous, hard working and knew what they were doing. They removed the existing fence and built a simple and sturdy 50’ replacement in less than a day and left my yard clean and undamaged. The two craftsmen were great and clearly enjoyed their work. I’ll use them again and recommend them to my friends and neighbors."

"I worked with several companies before deciding on Carrate. One of the reasons I chose this company was partly for the positive customer service, prompt and effective communication I experienced before and after the work was done. I was very satisfied with the finished product and the the clean-up afterwards. I will definitely hire Carrate again for future projects and highly recommend them to my friends and family."

"The quality of the stain on the fence was good, however they set up their equipment and did the mixing of cleaning solution and stain in the middle of the back yard. Apparently their equipment had a leak and they left a large puddle of stain and cleaning solution. The following day there was an area about 6 ft wide and 20 ft long were the grass was dead. I contacted them and they suggested I water for about 2 weeks and see what happens. So far the grass has not recovered. It appears that the area will need to be dug out about 6 inches deep, add clean fill and sod. They have offered to make things right. I will find out in the next week what my landscaper will charge and see if they are willing to pay for the fix."

Customers say: Quality work

"These guys are friendy and do amazing work. I'm obsessed with my new back porch stairs and am hoping to hire them again to fix up my front porch. They took their time and paid close attention to detail. They also cleaned up their work space and put everything in the work area back as seen before the project started."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

Homeowners should build their floating decks at least 18 inches off the ground. Having it at this height will allow for better airflow underneath and help prevent moisture-related problems like warping or rot. That being said, local guidelines for deck heights may vary depending on where you live.
