"I’ve had Mr. Handyman (technician Danny) out multiple times for a big remodeling project over the past couple of months. I have them coming out 2 more times this month. The communication is amazing and the work is great (and at a very fair price). I’m always impressed and that’s why I keep coming back to them. Highly recommend!"

"Trey contacted us very soon after we made a request through Home Advisor. We sent him a photo of our travertine tile and he responded with a preliminary estimate. Very soon he asked us if we were available and he came this morning at the promised time. He was meticulous in the work he did. He kept a clean work area, checked with us at every stage of the work and clearly explained everything that he was doing. He charged us his estimated cost and there were no surprises or unforeseen charges. We are very happy with his work and his is one of the nicest people you will ever meet."

"I was recovering from a pretty bad stomach flu, but Ron and crew still showed up on time and ready to work. I warned them I was sick, but they kept going forth, got the work done, and cleaned up the mess afterward. 10/10 will work with him again."

"The quality of the stain on the fence was good, however they set up their equipment and did the mixing of cleaning solution and stain in the middle of the back yard. Apparently their equipment had a leak and they left a large puddle of stain and cleaning solution. The following day there was an area about 6 ft wide and 20 ft long were the grass was dead. I contacted them and they suggested I water for about 2 weeks and see what happens. So far the grass has not recovered. It appears that the area will need to be dug out about 6 inches deep, add clean fill and sod. They have offered to make things right. I will find out in the next week what my landscaper will charge and see if they are willing to pay for the fix."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Increases livable area and enhances aesthetic, often boosting property appeal.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

A sunroom will add more value to your home than a deck, but with a much higher up-front cost. Depending on its construction and function, a sunroom may be counted as additional living space, while a deck is strictly an outdoor feature. Both will increase your home’s value, but the sunroom will have a much bigger effect.

Generally, a patio is more accessible than a standard deck because patios are constructed at ground level. However, decks can be made accessible by adding a wheelchair-accessible ramp, a vertical lift, or a stair lift along the entry. An ADA-compliant deck ramp costs about $3,000 on average. The additional investment will provide a much friendlier experience for your guests with movement impairments.
