"As promised in my prior excellent review of this company, I called to obtain an estimate for new work to be performed at another property. My experience was not as good this time. The estimate came in twice what was expected, as compared to the work they performed for me last time. Jamie Courville is very pleasant when he is not interrupting, but he doesn't listen carefully and he didn't respond to written questions directly related to the first estimate. I had asked to have the gate checked to level the gate hinges. He gave an estimate to replace the entire gate. On the second estimate, he eliminated the gate issue entirely. The estimate included sprinkler insurance, which wasn't necessary as there aren't any sprinklers. I truly detest surprise, unnecessary charges. He could have noticed when he was there we don't have sprinklers, OR..he could have asked! Don't just pad your estimate with nonsense hoping people won't notice. Jamie insisted the work can't be done without replacing everything, hence the very high price. Two years ago Dan didn't need to replace a single thing, and Dan's work was exceptional. This causes me to question Jamie's knowledge of this kind of work. I don't think I can use this company anymore, and i'm disappointed to have to say that."

"I hired them to build and install a entry gate and patio fence. I hired this company based on a telephone call with the owner Mike. No referral or reviews to fall back on but my gut said he would do what I needed done. What a pleasant surprise. They proved they are a solid veteran owned business. MS Welding were responsive and professional. Quality materials and build. Unlike many contractors I have worked with, Mike communicated with me throughout the process to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. My wife and I are so pleased with the end result. I would not hesitate to hire this company again. I just found out they do painting and concrete also. I have no doubt they do this type of work well."

"Andy and his son repaired my Liftmaster Automatic Gate after it was damaged by Snowpocolypse 2021. It require them custom engineering a heavy metal bracket to cover and seal the damage created when the armature was torn from the gate body. His creativity gave us a tremendously sturdier gate and contact point which continuous weld on 3 sides. Literally, much better than original preexisting work. They tested and retested until everything was perfect, hand brushed and smoothed all welds, then first galvanized all their work before matching and repainting the repair. It is not visible to anyone not specifically looking for it. Extremely competitive pricing. I highly recommend them."

"The crew was a bit sloppy when Joe wasn't around, but he had them return to re-do a few places and clean off areas where the concrete/mortar should not have been placed. There wasn't anything than couldn't be fixed."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

The cost to install a gate varies widely, with a typical range between $1,500 and $7,000. The average cost is around $3,500. However, the final price can be as low as $200 for a simple gate or as high as $12,000 for a large, automated security gate.

Key factors that determine the installation cost include:

  • Gate Material: This is a primary cost factor. Chain-link and vinyl are the most affordable, while wood and PVC are mid-range options. Wrought iron, aluminum, and other metals are the most expensive materials.

  • Automation: Automated gates are significantly more expensive than manual ones because they require motors, sensors, controls, and electrical installation.

  • Size and Type: The dimensions and style of the gate (e.g., swinging vs. sliding) will impact the price.

  • Security Level: Gates with advanced security features will increase the overall cost.

Other mechanisms can help you keep your gate securely shut. Secure gate latch types will do the job, such as magnetic or spring-loading, self-closing lever varieties, or automatic gate openers. However, they won’t control the speed at which the gate closes. You can purchase slam plates that use rubber buffers to reduce noise and the potential damage-inducing impact of a fast-closing, heavy gate.

When choosing a driveway gate, consider the fence material, whether you want an automatic gate or a manual one, and property limitations like the slope of your driveway. We recommend speaking with a professional driveway gate installer to see what types of gates will work on your property based on your fencing or home’s exterior. Keep in mind that driveway gates should range between 10 to 12 feet wide to ensure cars can easily maneuver through the gateway.

Fence gates sag because they have no support on the latch side of the gate to help hold them aloft. A gate wheel fixes that problem by providing support for that latch side. Remember that the ground must be level in front of the gate so the wheel can roll freely when you open and close it. If the terrain is uneven or slopes, a gate wheel won’t work.

For homeowners concerned about security, an electric gate may offer peace of mind. Electric gates will require a code or remote to open, so you don’t have to worry about young children getting out of the yard or someone breaking onto your property by simply swinging open the gate. But because it needs power to operate, installing an electric gate will be more complex and expensive.
