"I hired Ernest to do multiple jobs preparing my home to list including framing, drywall, tile and painting. I live in the DFW area and I was nervous about coordinating all of this work at a distance. Ernest was great at communicating with me through the whole process via text and phone. He provided detailed quotes via email so I could see exactly what the scope of work entailed. He gave me regular updates including photos and videos on the progress of the work, giving me peace of mind. He was very flexible working around my tenants move out/clean up schedule. All the work he did looks great, and I know it will add value to the home. He definitely takes pride in his work, and it shows in the finished product. I recommend their services, and I won't hesitate to call if further work is needed!"

"Everything went great! My handrails on my stairs are secure and you can't even tell where they tore a hole in the wall when the handrail came out. The pumphouse shed is in place and looks great. The trim on my outside windows looks great. Everybody was very nice and helpful. I will DEFINITELY use them again!"

"Prestige Fence & Deck is a great company, Jon and his crew did an excellent job replacing my old wooden fence, I was so impressed with their workmanship that I had them rebuild my Patio deck and gazebo, they did a fantastic job on both and added beauty to my back yard, plus the price was super reasonable. "We've had Wally out twice and he did a great job! He finished up a bathroom remodel - patched drywall, fixed door trim, painted and hung big mirrors.  He also sealed the grout in our shower that our tile guy (from another business) had made a complete mess of.  The second visit, he fixed some crown molding trim on our cabinets and re-build and re-hung the door to our shed.  We definitely plan on having him back to complete more work.  Wally is great!!  He was on-time and able to complete a whole bunch of different tasks to really improve how our house looks and works.  So much better than having individual contractors who can only do one kind of work.  Worth every penny!!

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.
