Deck or Porch Repair
I believe in life, the universe gifts us people when we need them. Mike and his crew at Capitol City Wood Works were one of these universal gifts our family was lucky to receive.
We met Mike about 6 months ago, shortly after my FIL had passed away and my MIL could no longer take care of the house. Our goal was to sell the house. The first problem...the back deck (55ft x 25ft) with a not working pool (33ft x 20ft) in the middle of the deck needed major repairs and code upgrades. The second problem, my husband & I live across the country & were overseeing the repairs from 1,300 miles away.
Using Angie's list we found 3 different contractors to interview for the job. Each interview we stated we wanted the deck to be safe, use the structure that is there and look good. Mike was the only contractor that did two important things: 1. he sought to understand our unique situation of distance & selling the house 2: he listened to what we wanted for repairing the deck rather than a new build

Mike Griffin and his team do great work - a few years ago we had them build a garden gate and gazebo, working from our design ideas and taking it to an artistic level - we still get compliments on the gate with its unique grille design! This latest job was mostly repair of an older deck including a new cover, a water-damaged patio enclosure and replacing a section of fence. So, a diverse set of building repair skills/techniques, all handled by Mike's crew in one job. John's masonry repair on the patio post is excellent, for example.
Mike is very thoughtful and creative about problem-solving with older homes that have been remodeled several times. He assessed some roof damage as well and gave me advice on when it should be replaced.

Mike Griffen has vast experience and integrity. The initial bid was for the wood planking replacement for a small deck and a fence repair. After demolition of the upper planks, the support under structure was found to be rotten also. He immediately gave me another estimate for structural work and replacement. They did an outstanding job replacing the roof structure of our patio and stabilizing supports for our 3rd-floor deck. Mike was detailed in the estimate and the time needed. The crew was professional and careful and the fence and gates look great. The job was completed in a timely manner and cleanup was also thorough. My neighbors have commented on how good the new fence looks. And, my dog is happy and secure exploring the yard.

Mike and his fabulous crew took on a large project at my residence which entailed replacing a lot of old wood around the windows of my 1964 Northwest Hills home, plus repainting the entire exterior top to bottom. Not only did they do a fantastic job, Mike had his crew really organized in terms of scheduling the work in the proper order, taking detailed notes and photos, and letting me know of any additional issues as they came up. Every house project always spawns more ideas for changes and Mike was super helpful in doing some interior work (removing some old doors and creating archways), and even did a great job power washing my standing seam metal room when it came into my mind that maybe that needed to be done. He is currently helping me select and go through the process of replacing my front door as well as installing some sliding doors that lead from the kitchen to the patio & outdoor living area. He is very detailed, focused, caring and truly wants the best for his customers. I trust his word 100% and he will be my go-to person in the future for any additional nutty home improvement ideas I might have. I had an excellent experience with Mike and his team.

I canâ t say enough about how awesome Mike and his CCWW team are. I had the siding and windows replaced on my house and the attention to detail was amazing. I was replacing old siding and I knew there would be unknown issues when it came down and Mike was prompt and clearly communicated the issue, fix and costs. His team is awesome and they take pride in their work, they donâ t rush things and Iâ ll mention again the attention to detail is fabulous. Like other reviews here, I agree that the original builders were not always precise and Mike and team paid attention to that, straightened things up and made sure the job was done right. Iâ ll definitely use CCWW for my next project!

CCWW worked on a project recently to replace all of the siding, windows, and the front door on our house and some other repairs including painting the new siding. Mike and his crew were professional and great to work with. I was especially impressed with their excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Even though parts of our wall framing was not straight from when it was originally built, they were able to improvise and fix it so the horizontal planks went on perfectly flat and it came out great looking. There were a few other issues related to how the house was built that came up but they always figured out a solution so the finished product would look great and stand up to the weather. Mike kept us well informed on everything from the time I received the quote until the final walk through at the end. He always kept us up to date on what they were working on each day during the project and consulted us whenever a decision was needed on how we wanted something to look. They also stayed on schedule even though it rained a few days and we decided to get some additional unplanned repairs done during the project. Mike takes great pride in his work and makes sure every step of the project is done right and it shows. In the end, our house looks brand new and beautiful. Weâ re really impressed with the job they did and highly recommend CCWW!

The builder installed the original windows out of level to each other and many out of plumb. Mike's crew put in the extra effort to rework the window openings to install them right - better than the original. Also did extensive Hardie siding work and painted. Our house looks so much better!

We are extremely pleased with the workers. They arrived on time, knew what they were doing, and did it well. Extra workers were brought in to accommodate our schedule. We were very impressed with the way the workers cleaned up each day. Mike is a really nice man to work with and makes sure his customers are pleased with the work. CCWW power washed and stained my small deck area, which was in a sad state. The boards were in pretty bad condition and they sanded where it made sense to do so, replaced many of the old nails, better seated a board that had popped up and made the deck look good. Mike spent a fair amount of time helping me decide on stain formulation and color. Job was done on time and on budget. Very professional company.

CCWW replaced water-damaged masonite siding with hardie siding on a portion of a house extension. They did a great job. Mike kept me informed of progress, walked me through the job and showed pictures of the substructure and the steps CCWW took. Job was done on time and on budget. Very professional company.

Capitol City Wood Works restored and painted our 40-year-old house and covered porch and shed additions. Michael Griffin and his professional roof and wood siding crews delivered 100% on our expectations by implementing affordable and eye-pleasing solutions to address a plague of rotting wood as well as by providing comprehensive caulking and painting of all wooden surfaces to keep such problems in check. Restoration also included installing a new roof on the porch and a new door on the shed. Capitol City Wood Works really cares about what the customer wants. The nonprofit I work for needed some TLC on our older ranch style home which was converted into our office. I met with a few contractors and was thrilled that I asked Mike to come out and provide an estimate. He is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. After deciding to go with CCW, Mike and his foreman came out to do a walk thru before the beginning work, and again after completion to ensure our satisfaction. His guys were equally knowledgeable and friendly. They even did additional small touch-ups at no cost because of the pride they take in their work and their attention to detail. I was blown away by that! I will absolutely trust CCW in any future home/office repairs and could not have been happier with the craftsmanship and the overall experience!
