"I hired Alex in December of 2019 and paid him 60% of job ($10k). He said he could finish the job before the holidays. It became very clear That he wasn’t going to be able to do that so we agreed to postpone the job until January 2nd. January comes along and his crew is on holiday and won’t be back until later in the month and at that time they will get a game plan. My understanding was that they should have had a game plan already given they had 3 weeks to do so in December. Weeks and now months have gone by and it’s either excuses about the weather or other jobs on the schedule to prevent him from completing my job. My deck is half torn apart and water is leaking into my house and on to the deck subfloor when it rains. Now of course COVID-19 stay at home order is in effect, which is the latest obstacle. this is an update to a previous review. we got off to a very slow start on the project and expectations on when the job was to be completed were not met. However, Alex is a man of his word and him and his crew have done a lot to make things right. job is still in progress, but the concrete looks great. next week they plan on staining the concrete and doing some additional work that went above and beyond of what was originally agreed including painting the stairs to the deck and adding a ribbon of trim."

"Very well.  Jordan's staff was very professional.  They moved my furniture and were very respectful and careful with my personal belongings.  The job took about 2 days longer than I anticipated but it was all good.   The flooring turned out great and aside from a few giant hand prints on the walls after they were finished, I was very pleased with the outcome. I would use Doninion again without hesitation

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Most homeowners insurance policies cover skyight damage that is caused by hail. Hail damage is considered a covered peril under most standard insurance policies. However, this only applies if your skylights were properly installed. Also, insurance policies vary, so be sure to check your individual policy to see if skylight hail damage is covered.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.
