"Everything went great! My handrails on my stairs are secure and you can't even tell where they tore a hole in the wall when the handrail came out. The pumphouse shed is in place and looks great. The trim on my outside windows looks great. Everybody was very nice and helpful. I will DEFINITELY use them again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Steve and his crews did a phenomenal job. They were able to honestly assess what could be salvaged and what needed replacement on a deck project to help fit our budget needs. We love our new Deck and feel safe again. They also helped install a pergola on top of the deck, and it turned out great."

"Great work and great customer service! We have no complaints. They did an excellent job with our walkway in front of our house. They were courteous, respectful, and cleared away all material when they were done. I really appreciate the communication, verifying the details of what we wanted in advance and then letting us know how the job was progressing. We will definitely call them back for our next home improvement project!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

A random orbital sander is best for sanding a deck because it is easier to handle than other power sanders and is less likely to damage the wood. Most decks are made of types of softwood, so a gentler sanding process is essential to prevent permanent blemishes. For example, belt sanders can gouge softwoods.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

Pressure-treated decks last 15 to 20 years on average, but with proper maintenance, you could get 40 to 50 years of value from yours. Reseal your deck every one to two years, and replace old or rotted wood as soon as possible to avoid structural damage. Where you live plays a role in the lifespan of your deck. Intense sunlight, rainfall, wind, and hail can reduce the deck’s lifespan.

An above-ground pool with a deck can increase your home's value by as much as 4% to 7%, but it depends on your local climate, potential buyers, and the size and condition of your pool. Some buyers see a pool as a liability instead of a luxury, especially if it's at the end of its life span. In general, it's best to add a pool and deck to your property if it will bring you enjoyment—not because it raises the value of your home.

A cedar deck can increase your home's value if the project is executed well. The value added by a deck is influenced by factors such as location, materials, and craftsmanship. In regions with warmer climates, decks are particularly desirable, enhancing outdoor living spaces.

The key to getting the most value out of your investment, both in terms of home value and personal enjoyment, is to make sure your deck is built to exacting standards. You should consult with a professional deck builder to get the best results and the highest ROI.
