"A home inspector recommended Taylor Waterproofing, saying it was a quality company that had reasonable pricing. When I called, the owner said he was booked beyond when I needed the work done, but after considering a moment, he said he would get the work done even if it meant working late or over the weekend. He kept in touch, so i never worried that the work wouldn't happen. When I met his team, I was very impressed with their professionalism and their kindness. The work was done well within my time constraints! My crawl space was left perfectly clean; he did way more than I expected. Working with them was a great experience!"

"Jacob W. did an amazing job when he came out and inspected my cabin's foundation. He was on time, professional, and friendly. The best part was that he gave me the great news that there were no foundation issues to be concerned about and that everything looked good."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to demolish and haul off an old shed (12x16 ft.) and do the site prep and construction of a framed gravel pad for a new one. The work was challenging: narrow, steep, curving driveway with a gate; fence on side and back of the work area; junk, including an old concrete pad, under the old shed; sloped site. The owner discussed the job and provided cost estimate(s), negotiated schedule, worked with me to resolve unforeseen issues, focused on the job so it was completed in a timely manner, and was pleasant to deal with. The work was done by an experienced, careful, hard-working, and reliable person who did an outstanding job. I would hire them again and recommend them to anyone who needs site prep work done."

The client went with a two-tone Trex design, creating a sharp contrast that highlights the picture frame layout. This design not only looks great but also helps define the space visually.

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

Limewash can be removed from brick, but the method of removal will depend on how long the limewash has been on the brick. If the limewash has fully dried—which happens after about five days—you’ll need to use a diluted muriatic acid mixture to remove it. If there are multiple coats of limewash, you may need to apply the acid mixture several times to fully remove it from the brick.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

Cutting stone comes with a number of safety hazards. First and foremost, if you’re not comfortable with the equipment required to cut stone, including blades and grinders, you could easily injure yourself. The heavy machinery also poses a risk to your ears if you don’t wear proper ear protection; similarly, you need to wear eye protection to keep debris from irritating your eyes.

However, the biggest risk from cutting stone comes from the stone dust. When breathed in, stone dust can be a huge hazard to your lungs. Always wear a face mask when cutting stone to prevent inhaling stone dust, and thoroughly clean the work area when you are finished.

To avoid injury, we recommend hiring a stone-cutting professional, rather than attempting this job yourself.

Masonry work tends to be more expensive because the materials can be costly, such as natural stone and brick. Masonry is also very labor intensive, typically making up 50% or more of the final project cost. In addition, quality masonry work requires years of training and experience, as with any skilled trade.
