"Jacob W. did an amazing job when he came out and inspected my cabin's foundation. He was on time, professional, and friendly. The best part was that he gave me the great news that there were no foundation issues to be concerned about and that everything looked good."

"I called American Foundation and Waterproofing regarding a significant, but localized, leak in a basement foundation wall. Michael arrived on time for the inspection appointment and performed a thorough inspection. He identified the cause of the leak and suggested several fixes that I could try myself. If the suggestions do not work, I will definitely hire this company. I believe they are honest, professional, and know what they are doing."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to demolish and haul off an old shed (12x16 ft.) and do the site prep and construction of a framed gravel pad for a new one. The work was challenging: narrow, steep, curving driveway with a gate; fence on side and back of the work area; junk, including an old concrete pad, under the old shed; sloped site. The owner discussed the job and provided cost estimate(s), negotiated schedule, worked with me to resolve unforeseen issues, focused on the job so it was completed in a timely manner, and was pleasant to deal with. The work was done by an experienced, careful, hard-working, and reliable person who did an outstanding job. I would hire them again and recommend them to anyone who needs site prep work done."

""The deck they built for me was top notch. The process was very smooth. I called, explained what I was looking for, they came out and took measurements, then worked with me to get all my material types and colors pin pointed. After I put the material list deposit down they put me on the schedule, showed up and knocked it out! Thank you all so much, no more splinters ! Wonderful job"

"The team with Gator Cut & Construct did a great job replacing the liner in our above ground pool. After working through some weather delays, they knocked it out. They are experienced and knowledgeable about the process. They took care of some unforseen issues below the pool before installing the new liner. It was a little more involved than originally thought but they addressed everything at a fair price. I would recommend them and will call them again for any pool maintenance needs. Thanks Matthew, I appreciate your help!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Cobblestone can be made from many different types of stones but the most common ones, by far, are granite, basalt, limestone, and sandstone.  If you are laying a brick paver patio or other such project, the medium is different. It’s rare, but cobblestone can also be made from marble, slate, jasper, and other types of rock. Technically, you can make cobblestone from almost any type of rock, but if it is weather-resistant and stands the test of time is another question entirely.

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

You may not need a hammer drill if you’re planning on drilling one or two very small diameter holes in brick. For holes with a diameter of 3/16-inch or less, a regular drill with a masonry bit can do the job. However, the bit will heat up quickly, and the process will take significantly longer than with a hammer drill. Prepare to cool your drill bit down in a bucket of water more often.

Stone houses used to be much more practical, but with the advent of stronger and cheaper materials like concrete, they aren’t seen as much anymore. There are some parts of the world where it makes sense to build with stone, and they are usually next to a stone quarry. Stone is, however, very weather-resistant, which is why many homes near the sea and on mountains are still built with local stone.

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.
