"This project went amazingly! Michel and Jeffrey gave me a thorough review and estimate of costs. They were very good communicators and were easy to stay in touch with. They were flexible in scheduling and were willing to work in the time frame that worked with my schedule. Their estimate was more than reason and their work was excellent. They came prepared to the job site and really did an outstanding job. The project didn’t take as long as I expected and their work was so good that we are already planning our next project! These are two honest hardworking men and I highly recommend them for any project you have. They seriously do just about everything you would need help with in fixing or renovating your home!"

I work for an interior decorator in Germantown a good portion of time. I have a shop and do all the work myself (with some family assistance when needed). I have been in the construction field for 35 years and have concentrated on interior woodworking for the last 15 years. Typical procedure when a family has something they want me to quote is to look at the project, get them a basic price to expect. If they wish to proceed, I do request a deposit on the project. I will then detail the work onto paper for final revisions and for a firm price (sometimes there are changes in design at this stage - the final price is adjusted accordingly). I do carry general liability insurance.

A bow window costs up to $15,000 to install in total. Materials cost anywhere from $1,200 to more than $14,000, and labor is an additional $300 to $1,900. Bow window costs vary based on the size of the window and the frame material. You’ll spend more for custom features or energy-efficient upgrades, too. For comparison, bay window installation costs about $1,000 to $7,000.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.

Professionals ensure precise alignment and durability, critical for structural integrity.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
