Small jobs welcome

"James came into a difficult project, abandoned by another contractor, and in just two weeks accomplished more than we ever could have expected. His team is reliable and does great work. James also gave us some solid advice that helped us do what really needed to be done and saved us time and money. Highly recommend Elemental Design."

"The bathroom in our 1960s rental house had to be totally gutted down to the studs due to a water leak. I chose KM Home Improvement over three other contractors because Ali and his team thought of every detail and made excellent suggestions. After ordering all the fixtures and finishes, I had to fly home to Chicago, so for the entire length of the project, Ali and I communicated by phone. I totally trusted them with the project. They were reliable, professional, easy to communicate with, and the bathroom turned out absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend them to deliver an outstanding project. Thank you, Ali and team!"

"Sergio and Southern Bright Star are absolutely amazing. He is meticulous in his work and his work ethic is superb. We had a previous contractor who had done an unprofessional job and my bathroom was a mess. The floor was not put in properly. The drywall was incomplete, the toilet leaked as soon as they left and the painting was amateur at best. Southern Bright Star came in behind these glaring mistakes and carefully and methodically worked what seemed like a miracle. He did not leave until we were completely satisfied. I would highly and enthusiastically recommend him and his company with absolutely no reservation."

"Exemplary! Jason delivered based on his recommendations and suggestions for our damaged fence and deck. During a bad storm, a large tree fell on our wooden fence and deck. I found good reviews online about Jason Mechler of Golden Rule and hired him. He explained the scope of work for rebuilding and repairing our damaged property. He and his crew worked hard and we are pleased with the result. I am convinced Golden Rule contractors are the best in Nashville because of Jason's attitude, character and work ethic. His knowledge, professionalism and respectfulness set him apart from several other contractors that bid on this job. His price was competitive for the work that had to be done. If you want the job done right, hire Jason Mechler of Golden Rule. His expertise on fence and deck building and repair is valuable to homeowners who are met with the hard work and challenges of home maintenance and repair. He is undoubtedly one of the best in the Nashville area and in demand."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.
