Wood is another potentially affordable option, but it requires more maintenance than stucco, so most homeowners who like the look and minimal siding maintenance of stucco opt for brick or stone. There are many different siding options, so you’ll need to weigh your priorities in terms of budget, aesthetics, insulation, and other factors.

The main differences between dutch lap versus clapboard siding have to do with their design and texture. Clapboard siding features flat, beveled planks stacked at a slight angle, offering a simple, traditional look. Dutch lap siding features a subtly concave surface along with a notch that creates a shadowed look between the boards. This eye-catching design often resembles wood grain and introduces a noticeable shadow line, making it more visually interesting compared to the simpler look of clapboard siding.

When choosing a siding color to complement your home’s red brick exterior, start by examining the shade and undertone of the brick. Some have a muted rust color that pairs well with a light or dark gray paint color, while more red-toned bricks look best against light neutrals like off-white or beige.

For the materials alone, a square of siding costs an average of $600, but prices can range from $100 to $3,000, depending on the material. Vinyl siding costs toward the lower end of that range, while real brick or stone siding costs closer to the higher end. Keep in mind that many boxes of siding contain two squares, enough to cover 200 square feet, so you may need to double your cost if you only need one square.
