"I have been using locally owned and operated Admiral Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. for a couple of years now after needing to purchase a new unit. They are incredibly affordable, professional, and knowledgeable. They always walk us through to understand what work needs to be performed before doing soâ knowing that their technicians have over 24 years of experience and continuous training from electronics troubleshooting to airflow problems and solutions is comforting. They are also available during evening and weekend hours and never charge extra for that, which came in handy a couple of years ago when our unit broke, and we needed to find a company fast to replace it. I cannot recommend them enough to all of my neighbors."

"I must say I was blown away by the difference this service made to my home and family. It’s a night and day difference in our home now in regards to our air quality. We did this 5 years ago and had little difference in results. This time around we contacted Kevin because a friend referred him and they where on time, professional and respectful of our space. His knowledge and attention to detail alone made me feel comfortable and now the results reflect that. He’s my go to go guy from now on for me, my family and friends. Best decision ever!!"

"Technician was very good. I had to have it done in the evening because the person they were sending in the afternoon had not been vaccinated. Iâ m elderly and that would not have been safe."

"Bob shows up on time and mostly anytime we need him. He works to resolve any issues despite the time of day. He has installed several units for us over the almost 40 years we have needed him. His costs are generally lower than others I have had estimates from. And he gives us an honest evaluation of repairs or replacements needed. These are reasons we go back to him year after year."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

An AC drip pan may stop draining if there’s a clog where the drip pan connects to the drain line. Clogs can form from a lack of cleaning or from rust or corrosion buildup. Cleaning the drip pan at least once per month lowers the chances of debris clogging the drain line.

Yes, it's normal for air conditioners to leak tiny amounts of water due to condensation. Under normal circumstances, all excess moisture travels to the drain pan to be pumped through your system's drain line. You should call a technician to diagnose the issue if you're noticing frequent leaking or pooling. It's also important to investigate if your homeowners insurance can cover water damage.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

Yes, mini-split or ductless AC systems add value to a home and do not devalue it. They are an attractive feature for potential buyers, especially in older homes without existing ductwork, as they provide a practical air conditioning solution without the significant expense and hassle of installing traditional ducts. Ductless systems also eliminate issues associated with conventional ductwork, such as noise and the potential for pests. Furthermore, homeowners value energy-efficient solutions, and mini-splits offer high efficiency for both heating and cooling, plus zoned temperature control. This leads to lower energy consumption and reduced electric bills, which is a major selling point.
