"I could not be more pleased with the service I received from Friends Heating and Air! They added me in same day even though that meant not arriving until about 7pm and didn't leave until the job was done close to 10pm. Emre was very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. Earlier that day, Fuse Services tried to sell me a $15,000 new AC unit due to the "mold" being so bad that I would also need to replace all the duct work. Emre told me the "mold" was actually just years of accumulated dirt and dust and all I needed was to change out the fan motor and do a clean-up of the inside of the unit and he didn't even recommend cleaning the duct work since he didn't feel it was needed. Cost was $500. I don't see how these other people sleep at night. Anyway, these guys are very honest and just good folks. I HIGHLY recommend Friends Heating and Air!!"

"The owner of the company Kevin and his crew arrived at 7:30AM sharp as promised. They got to work immediately. They provided all duct cleaning and sanitization as promised. They even open up my HVAC system to remove a dead squirrel that was the source of the odor in the house. They sanitized the HVAC system where the squirrel was found. They potentially may cost more but they do hands on work and worth the price."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

AC capacitors have a wide lifespan, ranging from five to 20 years, with an average of about 10 years. Many capacitors will last for the entire life of the air conditioning unit, and most homeowners only need to replace one once. A capacitor should only be replaced if an HVAC professional diagnoses a problem with it. Premature failure can be caused by overheating, power surges, or short circuits. You can help extend the life of your AC capacitor by scheduling regular AC maintenance each year.

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.

If your AC runs constantly, it could be due to a number of things, including a faulty thermostat, incorrect temperature settings, or broken equipment. Alternatively, you might have an airflow problem (for example, blocked vents or leaky ductwork). Either way, an HVAC pro can identify the specific problem and fix it for you.

For the most part, you should leave your AC fan in “auto” mode so that it only runs during a heating or cooling cycle. Keeping it in this position uses less energy, which equals lower utility bills. However, there are some situations where it’s better to leave your AC fan on, including if you have allergies or there are lots of people in your home.

Many HVAC manufacturers provide warranties that encompass the cost of a new compressor, with durations ranging from 5 to 10 years, depending on the brand. These warranties cover critical components such as the compressor, condenser, connecting tubing, evaporator, and refrigerant charge. Moreover, they often include the necessary labor for replacement or repairs. Keep in mind that premium-brand compressors may offer lifetime warranty options. It's essential to note that these warranties rarely cover labor costs.
