Customers say: Quick response

"Following the storm I had serious concern that a damaged and rather large limb positioned over the main roof of my home could possibly break during the next storm. I found 'AAA" in the yellow pages (before I joined Angie's List). I contacted Brenda and explained what I needed done and asked for an estimate. I also asked her to have her insurance company fax a copy of their policy on 'AAA' directly to my office. I work out of town and made all of the arrangements by telephone. The estimate that she gave was very, very reasonable. Following the first estimate I attempted to change the scope of work somewhat. Brenda was at my home at that time so it was easy to convey to her what my change entailed. After some further discussion we agreed upon a new price for the work. The additional work that I wanted done was substantial. I asked her to give me a second estimate 'on the spot.' I judged the new price as fair consider the amount of work and time it would likely take. She had at least 5 men on the job, which began very soon after we agreed on the new price. Incidentally, I was very specific about how I wanted the cur would dropped in my yard. I wanted the wood for my fireplace. This was 'payback' for the damage to my porch roof that I incurred during the first storm. It took Brenda's crew roughly 3 hours and work was done. I spoke to my wife (who remained inside our home the entire time). She hardly noticed that they were above and around the house doing their work. I did instruct my wife to look at where the cut wood had been dropped and to make certain that nothing was damage during the work (such as: air conditioner, utility trailer and fence). Everything appeared to my wife to be fine. She then wrote a check for the job, at the agreed upon price and Brenda and her crew left the premises. My wife did say that there were 3 vehicles, one of which was a 'bucket' truck. (Incidentally, the truck was carefully driven over the front lawn and there was no damage done to any of our shrubs or rose bushes, etc.). I am a very satisfied customer. I called Brenda up and told her how pleased I was and mentioned that I would write a FAVORABLE review in Angie's List."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks. Hire professionals for proper diagnosis and repair.

Yes, you can operate an electric fireplace (and other types of fireplaces) without the remote. If you’ve misplaced the remote or are waiting for the replacement to arrive, you can still control the fireplace at the access panel. You can find the access panel near the firebox, typically located at the bottom or top of this section.

Your chimney needs a structurally sound chimney cap, protective lining, damper, chimney flashing, and brick and mortar to prevent water from goind down your chimney. A pro can help you identify where the issue is so that you can stop water from coming down the smoke shaft, through your damper, and into your home.

A fireplace that doesn’t require a chimney is simply called a chimneyless fireplace. Don’t confuse these with ventless fireplaces, however. There are some fireplaces that require ventilation via a system of pipes, not a chimney. More specifically, the fireplace in question will likely be called by its name, such as electric, ethanol, or balanced flue.

Certain fireplace repairs will require that your contractor is licensed, including anything that involves moving, installing, or repairing gas lines. In that case, your professional will need to be a certified plumber. You can use Angi’s licensing lookup tool to confirm that the company you’re hiring is properly licensed. Most states don’t have specific license requirements for other fireplace repairs, but most demand at least a general contractor’s license. It’s also a good idea to look for companies certified by the National Fireplace Institute, as those pros tend to be more qualified to carry out the repair.
