"I had been told by another company that I needed to have my duct work replaced. It is only 7 yrs old so I contacted EF Martin for a free second opinion. They came out and did a visual inspection, showed me photos of where the other company said that there was damage and advised me that there were minimal repairs that needed to be done but that the work was still covered under the installing companies warranty."

"We first used Cottrell Fall 2017 for a hot water heater. Josh came out on a service call one night to assess our issue and recommended a replacement. I love that they have 24/7 hours with no extra charges. A crew came the following afternoon to replace the tank and installed new valves. We called them again when I noticed the signs of a potential slab leak earlier this month. They wanted another company to come out to detect the origination of the leak and then they came out afterwards. The day of the appointment to do the repairs, the appointment before me ran late so they were late getting to me and still stayed to finish the job until about 7:00 PM which I appreciated. I am pretty obsessive about my house being clean so I’ve appreciated their willingness to wear shoe covers and how they clean up after themselves. I have bad allergies so when they had to do the slab leak repair and Brett mentioned it would get dusty so he was putting up some plastic and I said I was concerned about dust going all over, he made a little fortress of plastic to work under to contain the dust in one small area. Of course, not even a plastic fortress can rival all that flying dust but I give him an A for effort :-) They replaced a hot and cold pipe that each had holes in the same area for $2,400. I can’t remember the name of the other tech but he was friendly as well. We noticed our water pressure in our kitchen decreased significantly after this repair and Brett came back again to check it out and cleaned out the hot line in the kitchen where some sediment was causing the low pressure. He also installed a new pressure reducer valve to boost the pressure in the house that has been low. Brett seems to go above and beyond and Cottrell has stood behind their work which has gained my trust in them. I will continue to call on them when plumbing issues arise (though I REALLY hope that won’t be for a while!)"

"Scheduling the work for a new dryer vent was not only easy and prompt, but the young lady who scheduled was more than helpful. The company offered a coupon on Angie's List which I had not purchased. After I mentioned finding the great reviews on Angie's List, she told me I would save by purchasing the coupon, which we did. Wayne and Robert arrived on time and proceeded to install the new vent after explaining what they would do. They reconnected our dryer to the new vents, replaced it and tried it out. Finally, they replaced a door that had been taken down by the new washer and dryer installers when they were done. This is one of the most professional and dependable companies we have had in our home, and we will use them again if needed for duct work."

"After talking with several plumbers, I decided to use Southeast Plumbing and Gas. Brian answered all of my questions and quoted me a very competitive price. Brian installed a new dishwasher, put in a new tankless water heater (plus ran new electrical for the unit) and some other smaller fixes. He was professional, courteous, and did the work for what he quoted. He also tackled some additional plumbing issues that cropped up while he was doing everything else. He was at our house for over 12 hrs fixing everything and making sure everything was working properly before he left. I would definitely recommend SE Plumbing and Gas and would use them again."

"It went better than I could have expected. The one stop crew came in helped me pick out the right water heater. They put it in no problem and got the old one out. I will call one stop for future plumbing and hvac issues."

"The contractor performed an outstanding installation. The first visit, he assessed the work to perform, then walk me through the process he would perform. He offered various units to accommodate my requirement before I decided on the best option. On the day of the installation, he arrived on time, took the necessary safety precautions, did the installation and then walk me through the process of what he performed and showed me the operations. His quality of work (A+) and the cost (A+) met our expectations."

"Jim responded promptly to my order placed on Angie's List for the Remote Computer Tune Up & Repair Deal.  He cleaned up the computer remotely, which was running very slowly, and required frequent re-boots.  Computer is running much faster now.  Great service.  Would highly recommend.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Using heating oil to heat your home has its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages.

Consider these drawbacks before installing a heating oil system:

  • Heating oil prices fluctuate frequently

  • Risk of oil spills or leaks

  • Produces more air pollution and soot compared to a gas furnace

  • Regular maintenance required for equipment

  • Need to reorder heating oil consistently to avoid running out

No, boilers and water heaters are not interchangeable because they serve different primary functions. Boilers are used for central heating systems, providing hot water or steam to heat your home. In contrast, a water heater's purpose is to supply hot water for daily household use, such as for faucets and showers. A water heater alone cannot supply the warm water or steam needed for a central heating system.

While they are not interchangeable, it is common to have both a boiler and a water heater. In fact, a conventional boiler often works best when a water heater system is already in place. The two systems can be combined to provide both heating and hot water, either by pairing a boiler with an indirect water heater or by installing a premade combination boiler-water heater unit. For home heating, some homeowners may also opt for a furnace instead of a boiler.

Radiators are a popular home heating choice in older homes, but they are becoming less common in new-construction homes. According to a 2022 report by Elements Visual Capitalist, only around 1.3% of new single-family homes have radiators and similar heating systems, such as baseboard heating.

While they may not be as popular as they once were, radiators today come with more energy-efficient features that can make them practical for modern homeowners.

A home radiator works by using radiation and convection to transfer heat throughout your home. Electric radiators use metal to conduct heat and warm the air, which then rises to warm the room. Steam and hot water radiators work with a boiler and piping system to pump thermal energy throughout the home. Hot water radiators use a boiler to heat the water before circulating it to the radiator, while steam heating radiator systems convert the heated water to steam before circulating it out. When the water or steam cools, it travels back to the boiler to be heated again.

Oil boilers provide reliable heating, efficiency, and long-term cost savings compared to electric options.
