"The service adviser came out and gave us a price. We got three estimates and they were in the middle but were also providing us with more options. The install crew showed up on time and were very polite while on site. They called a few days later to check in and see how we were doing. It was a very simple process. Would use them again in the future,"

"Scheduling the work for a new dryer vent was not only easy and prompt, but the young lady who scheduled was more than helpful. The company offered a coupon on Angie's List which I had not purchased. After I mentioned finding the great reviews on Angie's List, she told me I would save by purchasing the coupon, which we did. Wayne and Robert arrived on time and proceeded to install the new vent after explaining what they would do. They reconnected our dryer to the new vents, replaced it and tried it out. Finally, they replaced a door that had been taken down by the new washer and dryer installers when they were done. This is one of the most professional and dependable companies we have had in our home, and we will use them again if needed for duct work."

"After talking with several plumbers, I decided to use Southeast Plumbing and Gas. Brian answered all of my questions and quoted me a very competitive price. Brian installed a new dishwasher, put in a new tankless water heater (plus ran new electrical for the unit) and some other smaller fixes. He was professional, courteous, and did the work for what he quoted. He also tackled some additional plumbing issues that cropped up while he was doing everything else. He was at our house for over 12 hrs fixing everything and making sure everything was working properly before he left. I would definitely recommend SE Plumbing and Gas and would use them again."

"The contractor performed an outstanding installation. The first visit, he assessed the work to perform, then walk me through the process he would perform. He offered various units to accommodate my requirement before I decided on the best option. On the day of the installation, he arrived on time, took the necessary safety precautions, did the installation and then walk me through the process of what he performed and showed me the operations. His quality of work (A+) and the cost (A+) met our expectations."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The cost of heating oil fluctuates rapidly based on supply and demand, but the average price is between $4.00 and $4.50 per gallon, which means filling a standard 275-gallon tank would cost between $1,100 and $1,240. Much like automotive gasoline, the price of home heating oil changes constantly, so the only way to get an accurate and current price per gallon is to contact a heating oil delivery company. Some companies also offer contracts with a set price that should be an average cost over the contract term.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.

If you hear your radiator clanking even when it’s turned off, it’s typically because there’s trapped water or air in the system, causing a pressure buildup. When you hear significant clanking, popping, crackling, or banging in a radiator that’s turned off, you’ll want to bleed the pipes or call in an HVAC specialist to deal with the problem (and prevent it from happening in the future).

Always consult your manual for specific pressure numbers. Many expansion tanks come pre-pressurized at a specific PSI range, anywhere from 12 to 40 PSI, designed for a range of home boilers. You should not have to pressurize an expansion tank yourself, only the boiler system. If your system has a tank that needs to be manually pressurized, this is generally a job for professionals and their tools.
