"I gave them 50% deposit of $4,010 beginning of May 2022 for a fence work and they told me 4-6 weeks (their estimate was already roughly 30% higher than anyone else but I agreed since they said they will get it done quickly than others). I waited all the way until July 11th when I asked for a refund they told me they will process it (have it in writing). A month and half later I contact them they asked me to wait in Summerville they will bring cash and they never showed up. Later Billy threatened me in writing that he is getting aggravated and will make it harder for me to get the money. After waiting since May also since July 11th I only contacted them 2-3 times asking for a refund and been nothing but nice & patient. Needless to mention AVOID them by all costs. Now they just texted saying they won’t refund the downpayment at all."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Warped wooden landscape timbers are the result of the wood taking in too much moisture and then drying out. Treated lumber is less likely to warp but may still be susceptible to changes due to moisture. You can reduce the risk of warping by treating the cut ends of your timbers with a product specifically made for waterproofing wood.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

There are a few options if you miss a stud. You can simply patch the hole with spackle, sand it down, repaint it, and then find the stud—essentially starting over. If you don’t want to do that, you can insert one of the more robust drywall anchor options and hang your item on that, but that will only work if the drywall is in excellent condition and the anchor is rated for the weight of the item you’re hanging on it. You may be able to cover the hole with the object itself once it’s mounted, but it’s still recommended to at least fill the hole to protect insulation and prevent vermin from entering.

Living in a termite-infested home isn’t just annoying—it’s risky. These pests can quietly chew through wood, weakening your walls, floors, and even the structure of your house. On top of the safety concerns, there’s the financial stress of repairs, not to mention potential health issues from mold or allergens stirred up by termite activity.
