"Called to fix a hole in our chimney. Responded to the call quickly but patched it up poorly. Cement and insulation immediately fell off and no one came to replace it until the next day. Repair round two went better but out chimney looks like a real mess now. Not impressed."

"Derek at Arch masonry and restoration and his crew recently repaired and rebuilt my nearly 100 year old front steps and landing. Prior to the repair my bricks were cracked, broken and the concrete treads were incorrectly pitched and trapping water against the house. The crew at Arch repaired and replaced well over 100 bricks and repointed the remaining brick and installed beautiful granite treads. Bobby and Dave the masons were incredible! Always arriving on schedule to begin the work day, very informative during the construction phase, and leaving the job site spotless at the end of the day. If you hadnâ t seen them working during the day you wouldnâ t have known there was an active masonry project going on in the evening! Derek the owner is great at communicating throughout the project. Wether it be the type of materials, the stages of the project and informing you of what is happening and what is the next step, or when the weather turned to rain and they werenâ t going to be able to work, itâ s fantastic to know exactly whatâ s happening to your project! Derek was always quick to reply to a text, call or an email. It was a really great experience. These guys are great, very professional and very knowledgeable. Great Masons."

"Tom was totally professional, friendly, informative, punctual, and thorough. We had an interior brick wall that was spalling (from moisture on the exterior). He and his sons ground and mortared it and it's fabulous! They repaired the interior and exterior brick work of the house, so it does not happen again. They worked quickly and cleaned up everything. They even constructed an indoor cave to work in, to trap any brick dust from spreading around the house. Tom also had the best prices, and I got five estimates. I recommend him 100%!"

"Contracted them to rebuild both our chimneys and put in liners for the chimney. They showed up on time for the estimate and to do the job as well, they we’re very easy to work with and explained each step of the process and even built a decorative corbel top that looks spectacular which I was not expecting. Would recommend"

"SD Chimney did a repair job for us in 2007. Very positive experience. Just had him back to rebuild our chimney. Scott did an outstanding job. Very punctual and professional. We have some additional masonery work he will be doing for us in the near future. I would highly recommend him."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

Wood filler can be used to repair minor scratches, dents, and damages on wood veneer. Simply scrape the wood filler over the chipped or scratched area. Make sure to leave a little bit more than you need so you can sand it down for a smoother finish. Repaint or restrain the surface to ensure a consistent color.

If you’re looking for a reputable furniture repair company, the best-case scenario is getting a referral from a trusted friend or family member. However, you can also ask local furniture repair companies about the following points to determine their experience and quality of work:

  • Warranty for structural repairs

  • Positive online reviews and Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings

  • Number of years of experience

  • Specific expertise with fixing your type of furniture

  • Ability to carry out on-site repairs to avoid damage during relocation

A drawer falling out of place usually indicates there’s too much in it, so the best place to start is by emptying it of any non-essential items to check whether it was simply a weight issue. If that’s not the case, check whether the front panel or hardware is damaged, and replace parts as necessary. You may need to replace the drawer or the drawer slides if the issue persists.

When deciding whether to repair, reupholster, or replace old furniture, consider its age, quality, level of wear, and overall value, including sentimental attachment. In many cases, it is more affordable to reupholster or repair furniture than to replace it, especially for antique, vintage, or discontinued pieces.

Older furniture is often made from durable hardwoods like oak and maple, giving it a longer lifespan than newer furniture, which frequently uses lower-quality materials such as plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Because of this, repairing or reupholstering a well-made older piece is often a worthwhile investment.

To determine the best course of action from a financial perspective, compare quotes from local furniture repair services with the price of a new, similar piece. Reupholstery may not be cost-effective for furniture that was originally inexpensive (e.g., under $300). For high-quality or sentimental items, however, it is an excellent way to preserve the piece and extend its life. If you're unsure, a furniture reupholstery specialist can help you evaluate the piece and make an informed decision.

The duration of a repair job can range from a few hours to several days. Simpler issues may take 1-4 hours, while more complex work or extensive damage could take 1-3 days. The final timeline depends on the complexity of the problem, the extent of the damage, and the location of the work.
