Valter Rego Masonry

Valter and his crew were prompt, courteous, respectful, and hard-working. Communication was great, and Valter consulted me at every step. His crew flawlessly re-pointed our foundation in several spots, built a new border around our front garden, and laid in a paved walkway. The results were stunning. Valter was direct, honest, and fair in his estimate and pricing. We will definitely work with him again!

Valter and his team were excellent. They removed the old cement front steps and walkway. They worked diligently to prepare the area for the new walkway and steps. They were very professional and hard-working. They did not goof off. They did extra tasks that were not part of the contracted work. Valter Rego came out and gave me a quote quickly (and at a very fair price I think). He squeezed me into his schedule. His guys came out and widened the path in areas where I had dug it out (they suggested it would look better this way and use more stone), and then laid the stones beautifully. They were quick, professional, and the area looks fantastic. I highly recommend them for their work.

Craftsmanship and design, Excellent, Second to nothing I have seen. Not just cobblestones in a line, eye catching designs A crew that each day would be getting more done than we . Professionally trained and true artisans of their profession. My wife and I felt they really wanted to make sure we got more than expected, and they did. Completing the job was leveling everything off with loom and grass seed. Everything was spot less. I gave Valter more than he expected and I feel like we received a fair deal. Real professionals do not hesitate if you want the best.

Valter and his crew removed our crumbling cinderblock retaining wall on our walkout basement stairs.  They replaced the walls with larger cinderblocks, filled them with cement, and reinforced with rebar.  Due to the pitch of our backyard he also waterproofed the wall and exposed foundation.  While he was here we also had him repoint our chimney which needed to be done!  He kept us in the loop with all steps of the project.

i'm a repeat customer. The quality of the work is good, but this time they forgot about me, and they do take a long time to get around to me every time.

On day two of the job, late in the afternoon after roughly 5 inches of earth had been removed to make way for a new floor, a supporting field stone wall, estimated at 18' long by 6' high and 2-3 feet thick became separated at two corners and was leaning precipitously inward toward my heating system.  Luckily, interference with the overhead beams and quick work on the part of the crew installing braces kept the wall from collapsing completely.  The decision was made to dismantle the stone wall piece by piece and remove the material (Stone and gravel) to my driveway.  Plywood "dams" were wedged against the incroaching earth to prevent serious erosion.  The house settled considerably but damage was limited to jammed doors and ceiling and wall cracks.  Emergency lally columns were installed throughout the area and the local building inspector and an engineer were called.  It was then that I learned that the work required a building permit that had not been pulled.  Having no ability in this area, I relied very heavily on the contractor to follow any and all regulations and had no reason to doubt his skills or judgement.  The inspecting engineer was very critical of me and the way the job had proceeded and subsequently drew up a plan ($1525) for the repair to the collapse.  Believing there was a conflict of interest, I decided not to offer this work to Valter Rego Masonry, nor did I feel this firm was qualified for the work.  The engineer recommended a contractor but that contractor has been completely unreliable (waiting 8 months now).  Two stone and gravel piles, the largest spanning 12 feet across and 4 feet high, were left in my driveway.  I spent significant effort and money to remove them.  An attempt to file a claim with the contractors insurance company was rebuffed by the owner, Valter Rego. He instead suggested that we either share the cost of the repair or take the cost from the original agreed upon estimate.  I have nothing in writing.  To date (September 28, 2015) I have not had any progress in a repair, nor have been able to move forward with the original work and have incurred nearly $2000 in remediation cost between the engineering plan and the stone and gravel removal.  The home is still sitting on emergency columns and the continual damage from settling is resulting in visible cracks and jamming of windows and doors which is undoubtedly going to cost extra in unplanned expense.  In short, this experience was one to forget.  I am contemplating the hiring of an attorney.  I had hoped that this would not be needed, but I am not receiving any satisfaction from (now) three contractors and this was completely avoidable.  To his credit, this contractor has not requested compensation for any work performed to date.

They did a great job.  They came when they said they would, did an excellent job, and charged us exactly what their original estimate was.  When there was an unexpected delay due to inclement weather, they contacted us pro-actively and gave us an updated time of when they would do the job.  Great to work with.

Overall very well. Unlike many contractors Valter shows uip on the date promised and his crew works until the job is finished. He has also done jobs for relatives.  Work is generally of high quality.
