Customers say: Super punctual

"Kevin did what he said he would do. He was honest and professional, he stuck to his quote and he called to let us know when he was coming and he stayed and worked until the job was done. He did in my opinion an awesome job. We had told him we were not concerned that the part that needed repaired would not look like the rest of the wall and to be honest his repair looks better. I would hire Kevin again and plan to do so in the near future. I would recommend him to anyone looking for masonry/cement work"

"We hired NE Foundation Crack Repair to fix a cracked foundation wall in our garage. From our first communication to the estimate to the completion of the job this company was professional and very easy to deal with. Our technician Tony arrived when we expected, did a beautiful, clean, and complete repair of our garage wall inside and out. He was very skilled and knowledgeable and we were very happy with how friendly and professional he was. We highly recommend this company and would absolutely call them again if needed."

Small jobs welcome

"Steve, from ?Around The House Handyman Services did an absolutely great(!) job. For starters he responded to my Angi request with incredible speed and we immediately set an appointment to get the work done the very next day. He showed up precisely on time and was completely prepared & geared up to do the job: the installation of a large and VERY heavy, 65? TV. Steve expertly installed the wall mounting bracket, including perfectly locating and measuring for the optimum position. He then fully assessed and made all the mechanical & electrical connections to the rear of the TV necessary for mounting to the bracket and for connecting to the WIFI cable signal. After which the two of us lifted the TV onto the mounting bracket and tweaked the final location and connections. When Steve left the TV was in perfect working order and mounted in the perfect location. I will gladly hire Steve to do more work, and I strongly recommend him to anyone needing handyman services."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.
