"My sister-in-law told me about Justin when I needed to replace a toilet. I called him yesterday, 2/18, and told him what I needed done. He picked up the new toilet, installed it perfectly and took the old one with him. I have never experienced a plumber like him: willing to help ASAP, professional, honest, personable and so kind! Finally…I have a great plumber!"

Small jobs welcome

"It was a great experience. Preston was very personable and explained everything that needed to be done once he assessed the problems. He proceeded to fix the problem.(back up between the toilet and shower) with minimal ease and in a timely manner. I would definitely hire him again to do any other plumbing jobs in the house that needed to be done."

"Josh and his team installed a tankless hot water system into my new home. Josh was always super responsive, showed up on time and performed quality work. There was a small issue with a line in our house and he came out immediately to resolve it. Also had his team install two new toilets to our house. Highly recommend him and his team."

"I was very impressed with how he explained everything, performed the work and kept us informed with what was going on. I was able to watch everything and he followed the outline he gave us exactly. He was very knowledgeable and even offered much advice for a second house of mine that has a failing septic system. See their web site which lists all the types of work they perform with all the information that he was telling me personally. I would definitely use him again and certainly recommend him to anyone else. Note, that he will give a discount to Angie's List members, in our case 15%. The $400 charge, listed somewhere above, does not include the discount.

The following is a detailed account of what Jim did at our house for, I think, a typical badly blocked sewer line.
We contacted Anchor Sewer and Drain Cleaning in order to fix an apparent blocked main sewer line exiting the house.
The blockage was causing the water to back up and come into the cellar via holes in the vent pipe. The house was built in the 1930's so the pipes are very old and fragile.
We called about 8:30 AM and were pleasantly surprised that he could come that same day at 11:00 AM. He arrived on time at 11:00 AM.
Prior to the work being performed, he gave us prices for fixing the problem based on a couple of possible scenarios, dependent upon what he might find.
He also explained what each solution would entail and how long it might take. (3 hours in our case)
He was very careful getting the old main cap off the sewer line, which was stuck on, without breaking any of the old pipes.
Once access was obtained he used a specialized hose to pressurize the line to try to "blow out" any clog. However, this was not enough to fix the problem.
The next step was to use the electric "rooter" to cut through all the years of old sludge built up in the horizontal pipes and to cut any roots that might have gotten in over the last 80 years (which, it turns out we had). The rooter is a 200 pound machine that he had to get down the steep outside cellar stairs. It is an electric powered device with rotating cutters that clean the sewer and literally cut roots. The rooting was necessarily a slow process in our case as it was hitting blockages along the way that required slow going. He also had to negotiate joints in pipes that caused the machine to hang up. In the end, he was able to root the whole 90 feet to the town sewer.
Jim indicated that he always uses his "scope" to verify the success of the rooting process, which may not be performed by other companies, without an additional charge. This is a great device that clearly shows the inside of the pipe visually on the color screen (6" x 8" maybe?) of a portable device connected to the scope cable. In our case it showed a (now) very clean pipe with the remnants of very fine roots in the first 15 feet of pipe. (These were attended to last). The scope software also displays the current distance of the scope head to the house. Using the "scope" he was also able to identify a problem with the town's sewer that was not emptying properly and told us to notify the town.
The last step was to explain how to use a chemical, periodically, to kill the cut roots and to prevent future root growth. This is simply a foaming chemical that is applied through the toilet. He gave us the first treatment which we immediately applied.
Again, I recommend Anchor Sewer and Drain Cleaning for anyone else.

"I had a plumbing need in my basement. It was a leaky sewer drain stack. I contacted two different companies thru Angi's list. Both came to look at the job and quote it. John Morel came in almost one half the cost. The other company wanted to do extra things do do the job, seems that was to make it easier on him. John proved that it was not necessary. He was very professional, quick and did it right. Thank you Angi's list. I called them to verify his reviews. He is a 5 star plumber. I would definitely recommend him. John N"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

On average, it costs between $150 and $300 to fix a toilet that’s leaking at the base, including supply charges. If the flange is intact, the cost is between $150 to $200. If the flange needs to be replaced, you can expect an extra $50 or so. The actual price will depend on the hourly rate your plumber charges.

The cost depends on the parts, labor, extent of damage, and whether extensive plumbing modifications are required. Typical repairs cost $150-$300.

You should choose the type of toilet that meets your budget, fits properly in your space, and matches the rest of your decor. If you’ve never gone toilet shopping before, you might be surprised at how many options are available. Most homeowners choose a two-piece toilet, which is the industry standard, and a gravity flush system is the most common. However, dual-flush and low-flush toilets are becoming more prevalent as more people become conscious of water consumption.

While the toilet bowl and toilet tank require haul away to your curb, landfill, or recycling center, you can dispose of your old, used toilet seat in your regular garbage collection. If your toilet seat is plastic or duroplast, you can even recycle it instead at a local recycling facility.

The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.
