"I recently used Alliance Chimney & Energy to inspect and clean my chimney. They were very thorough and professional. The technicians arrived on time, explained everything clearly, and left my fireplace sparkling clean. However, if you're looking to upgrade your fireplace for more heating efficiency or add a new heat source altogether, Belle Flame [https://belleflame.com/] might be a good resource to explore. Here's why: Focus on Heating Solutions: While Alliance Chimney excels at fireplace maintenance, Belle Flame offers a wider range of heating options beyond traditional fireplaces. They carry high-efficiency wood burning stoves and fireplace inserts that can provide significant heating power for your home. Efficiency and Clean Burning: Modern wood burning stoves are designed to be much cleaner burning and more efficient than traditional fireplaces. This can save you money on firewood and reduce your environmental impact. Overall, Alliance Chimney & Energy did a great job cleaning and inspecting my fireplace. However, if you're looking for additional heating solutions or a more efficient heating option, Belle Flame might be worth considering."

"Chuck responded fast to my message. He was one of the most honest people I met on Angies. Unlike other chimney sweeps, he said that my chimney is in a good shape and cleaning was no necessary."

"We’re enjoying the heat and beauty of our new fireplace as I write this! Chimney Cricket supported us through a tough series of errors caused by manufacturer’s lack of support. Finally they were able to locate the errors and get our beautiful new fireplace up and running. My only word of warning to folks considering installation of a new fireplace: make sure the model you select has a track record of easy installation and servicing, and that the manufacturer is known for standing behind their products."

"Al was fantastic! He clearly explained that my fireplace was shutting off as a safety feature due to low oxygen levels. He also reassembled the logs in the firebox and showed me the proper way to start and stop the fireplace. Highly recommend his service!"

"Chimney Joe is wonderful.I needed the crack in the back wall of my fireplace repaired and Joe came out (after I’d talked to several chimney services ;of which I didn’t like),and told me what was wrong and what I needed to do . He is honest, straight forward , and quick. We ordered new panels for the walls of the fireplace Joe installed them in 45 minutes and we were back in business that evening. My husband and I enjoyed our Fireplace and we haven’t had a problem since ! Chimney Joe will service our fireplace from now on ."

Customers say: Quality work

"Joe just came out and fixed our fireplace. The pilot light went out years ago, and we were told we'd have to pay over 10k for a new unit, and it'd destroy our mantel. We found Joe on Angi and set up an appointment within a week. He came out this afternoon, and within an hour our decades-old fireplace was up and running! He cleaned everything, and now it works better than ever. We are so grateful, and excited to have our fireplace for the winter! We definitely recommend Joe O'Neill of O'Neill's Gas Services."

"these guys are the best. They came out almost immediately. No one has cleaned the fireplace insert or the chimney like they did. I had absolutely no draft, another company wanted to charge me $600 because my chimney is not standard height. They had all the tools necessary to clean it all the way up, not like the last company that came out. They cleaned the woodstove shelf-no company had cleaned that before and left the house without a trace they were here. Very respectful of keeping the place clean as they went. Even made friends with the dog. I scheduled my next cleaning right away. These guys far out shine anyone out there. Highly recommend"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

To maintain a stove, clean the stove, chimney, or vent regularly. You should also use seasoned wood or pellets. Schedule an annual professional inspection to ensure safety.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says that chimneys and their associated elements like fireplaces, vents, or stoves should be cleaned at least once a year before the start of seasonal use. According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America, a chimney should be cleaned when there is 1/8 inch of soot buildup. If there’s more than that, creosote—a flammable byproduct of burning wood—can form and increase the risk of a chimney fire.

Pellet stoves are used as heat sources for homes. They work by burning biomass pallets, which might be composed of wood, sawdust, or food waste. The pellets are stored in the stove's hopper until the stove is ignited, at which point some are released into the stove's firebox to burn for heat. Unlike most fireplaces, pellet stoves have a thermostat that adjusts the temperature by releasing more or fewer pellets, depending on how warm you want to make your living space.

You can control the flame on a pellet stove by using a damper, often located on the back of the pellet stove. While the damper function varies by model, you can open the damper slightly to let in more air or close it slightly to provide less oxygen, with the ultimate goal of providing a steady flame.

Yes, you need to leave your chimney damper open when burning a creosote log so that smoke and other debris doesn’t waft into your house as it’s burning. You’ll need to make sure your damper is fully open, even when the log continues to smoke, until it’s completely out and cold.
