"Hammer Electric showed up early for the appointment and was very nice and professional. Their pricing was fair for the 200-amp service and recess lighting they added for mew. They did an amazing job. Very neat while working and cleaned up their work area when they left. I will hire again for my rental properties and refer others. I highly recommend them for any electrical needs."

"hired DC Electrics to rewire my 3 storey townhouse, which was built in 1896 and had the old knob and tube wiring. I had lots of estimates from other companies and they all said the scope of damage would require me replacing my plaster walls and ceilings with sheetrock. Daryl is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, he was creative and knew instantly how it could be done without making too many holes in the ceiling or disturbing any of the crown molding. I was able to stay in the house for the duration too. Darylâ s crew were all professional, turned up on time and worked full days before cleaning up. He pulled permits and inspection was a breeze. He also advised me on some creative ways to light my house that I hadn't thought of and now I have lights in my garden. It was an extensive job which Daryl handled phenomenally. High quality work for a good fair price. I recently had to move an electrical panel to reconfigure a new bathroom. Again, DC Electrics to the rescue!"

"JDV Electric recently replaced my electrical panel and delivered outstanding service from start to finish. The technicians were professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. Before beginning the work, they took the time to remove the panel cover and thoroughly explain the existing damage, as well as how to prevent similar issues in the future. Unlike other companies that simply provided quotes without any explanation, JDV made sure I fully understood both the problem and their proposed solution. Their attention to detail and clear communication set them apart. The team worked efficiently and left the work area spotless, it was as if they had never been there. It?s rare to have a contractor complete a job without needing any cleanup afterward. I highly recommend JDV Electric for any electrical needs, and I will absolutely be using them again for future projects."

"We solicited three bids for the electrical work we wanted done in our home. We met representatives of three companies from our search of Angieâ s List and Home Advisor and received three different bids on the job. We then did out due diligence reading customer reviews and chose Generation 3 Electrical & HVAC. From proposal to completion, the people we interacted with were courteous, considerate, and professional. If youâ re looking for a company who employs licensed electricians who take pride in their work and know how to treat their customers, we highly recommend Generation 3 Electrical & HVAC. Our family wants to thank the office manager, Nicole, and the electricians, Corey, Ed, and Kevin for being courteous, answering all our questions, and for the great work you did at our home."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When converting a standard 120-volt outlet to a 240-volt outlet, the only components you can typically reuse are the existing electrical box and the hole in the wall. Everything else—including the wiring, breaker, and receptacle—should be replaced to ensure both safety and efficiency. Appliances designed for 240 volts have different plug configurations that won’t fit into a standard 120-volt outlet, making it necessary to install a compatible 240-volt receptacle. This design helps prevent overloading or underloading the power available to any one outlet or circuit.

Yes, GFCI breakers are required for all outdoor outlets. This code requirement applies to all outlets located on balconies, decks, patios, and other outdoor lounge spaces. In addition, outdoor outlets need to have watertight covers that provide protection when cords are plugged in. If you have an older home that may not be up to code, it's a good idea to also ask your electrician about adding GFCIs to some indoor areas. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any other areas of a home that are commonly exposed to moisture should have GCFI breakers.

Single switch installs are quick DIY projects, but you should consider enlisting the help of a pro for more complicated replacements—like a smart switch or if you live in an older home with outdated wiring. Professional electricians are trained in the latest code regulations. They are also insured, licensed, and bonded.

Yes, electric fences need power to operate. They are powered by either a battery or an electrical outlet. In heavy snow or extreme rain, or if the power goes out, your electric fence might stop working. Knowing how to test an electric fence is important for figuring out if the fence is still functioning properly.

You can test an electric fence with a multimeter, but you’ll need to set the multimeter to the correct voltage measurement—such as alternative current (AC) or direct current (DC) and range—depending on your fence. You can find the voltage type and range in the fence’s user manual.
