"Thinking about new flooring? Think about Young Brothers for the job!!! I just purchased Luxury Vinyl flooring from Young Brothers, and they did a wonderful job on the installation. I wanted to remove the old tile so that I could have an even transition from kitchen to dining room. It was a big job to take out all the old plywood. They did a good job of keeping the dust to a minimum. They cleaned up after themselves on each of the 5 days. I am pleased with the flooring and installation. I would highly recommend Young Brothers. I have other floors that could be updated, and I would absolutely use them again. They had a lot of choices in flooring, make, and colors. I went with something that looked like wood and would match the wooden floors I had in the dining room."

Small jobs welcome

"Bob and his assistant Dave worked hard and neatly to restretch my carpet to eliminate buckling due to the original installation being improperly stretched. They came quickly to make it safe for me to walk in my home without tripping. I would enthusiastically recommend Bob Milliron Flooring for any carpet concerns. They showed respect for my furnishings as they worked and had to move many heavy furniture items, replacing them properly when their work was completed. I am pleased to have learned about this service provider on Home Advisor."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

In Pittsburgh, combining flooring installation with upgrades like HVAC, electrical, or plumbing work is often efficient, especially in older homes with layered systems. If you’re updating insulation or addressing drafts, coordinate these improvements before installing new floors. For homes in historic neighborhoods, consider bundling restoration work to maintain architectural integrity and streamline contractor visits, minimizing disruptions and maximizing long-term value.

Helpful?

Pittsburgh’s humid summers, cold winters, and frequent rain can cause flooring materials to expand, contract, or absorb moisture. Engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank flooring are ideal for these conditions, especially in basements or lower levels. Scheduling flooring installation in spring or fall, when humidity is more consistent, helps ensure proper acclimation and reduces the risk of warping or installation delays.

Helpful?

Upgrading flooring in Pittsburgh can significantly boost your home’s value and attract buyers, especially with hardwood or luxury vinyl plank in main living spaces. Authentic hardwood floors are highly sought after in historic neighborhoods, while waterproof and low-maintenance options are ideal for basements. Modern, energy-efficient flooring materials also appeal to younger buyers, helping your property stand out in the local real estate market.

Helpful?

In Pittsburgh, always test for subfloor moisture, particularly in basements or older homes, to prevent future issues. If your property predates 1978, arrange for lead paint or asbestos checks. Ensure your subfloor is level and stable, and allow new flooring materials to acclimate indoors for several days. Plan your project around the heating season and local events, as flooring contractors’ schedules fill up quickly.

Helpful?

Pittsburgh offers a range of flooring contractors, including large regional installers for quick turnaround, local specialists with expertise in hardwood refinishing for historic homes, and remodelers who handle kitchen or bath projects. Some contractors focus on tile or commercial flooring installation, while others are skilled in restoration for older properties. Look for flooring contractors familiar with Pittsburgh’s unique housing styles and climate challenges.
