"Rich was excellent he was knowledgeable and efficient and fair-minded and his pricing. I would strongly recommend him to anyone for both electrical work and the minor changes to a generator. He solved two other small electrical problems for me that were wiring oriented."

"I am beyond pleased with the services that Lenzi Electric, LLC has provided. The Electrician Larry Lenzi and his assistant went beyond what I expected by identifying the electrical needs required by the municipality and even putting in an electrical outlet that was not actually present and a 220 line that was not required. I cannot thank them enough. It is superb electrical services from fully licensed and insured technicians. The price was fair and comparable as well. I thank them for assisting me and Angi for having them as a contractor."

Small jobs welcome

"Working with BabyBird Electric has been an all around great experience. Rick is very knowledgable and explains in detail the work that is going to be preformed. We bought an older home with electric wiring of just about every type back to knob and tube. The work was extensive and Rick has walked us through each step with consideration for safety, cost, and aesthetics. The work included install of a new upgraded service, and essentially a rewire of the entire home. With other renovations underway and the serious challenge of solid brick walls, Rick has creatively solved problems and greatly improved the quality of our home. If you appreciate excellent customer service, high quality work, and the the personal touch of a family run business you won't be disappointed with BabyBird. We highly recommend."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before starting electrical work in Pittsburgh, confirm your contractor is familiar with local permit requirements and the quirks of older homes. Schedule inspections early, as demand can be high during spring and summer. If your property is in a historic district, check for additional approval steps. Also, coordinate with your utility for any service upgrades and assess for hidden issues like outdated wiring or lead paint.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Pittsburgh often underestimate the complexity of electrical projects in older homes, leading to skipped permits or hiring professionals unfamiliar with local codes. Overlooking the need for extra outlets, especially in basements or outdoor areas, is common. Failing to document agreements, ignoring historic district guidelines, or not planning for potential asbestos or lead paint can result in costly delays and safety issues.

Helpful?

In Pittsburgh, unexpected costs often arise when outdated knob-and-tube wiring or insufficient grounding is discovered during upgrades. Repairing plaster or brick walls after rewiring is common in older homes. You may also face extra expenses if moisture issues in basements affect electrical work, or if additional smoke detectors are required to meet code. Weekend or emergency work can further increase project complexity.

Helpful?

In Pittsburgh, be wary of electrical professionals who offer vague quotes without itemized details, especially for older homes with unique wiring challenges. Watch for contractors who avoid discussing necessary permits or seem unfamiliar with local code updates common in Pittsburgh’s historic neighborhoods. High-pressure sales tactics, requests for large upfront payments, or reluctance to address grounding and knob-and-tube issues are also warning signs.

Helpful?

Upgrading electrical systems in Pittsburgh, especially in older or historic homes, can make your property more attractive to buyers seeking safety and modern features. Improvements like updated panels, GFCI outlets, and smart home upgrades are highly valued in the local market. These enhancements not only boost resale appeal but also help your home meet current safety standards expected by today’s buyers.
