"We recently contracted with Leghart Brothers to refinish our hardwood floors. From start to finish it was a pleasure to work with the owners. They are patient, knowledgeable and their staff is on time and very respectful. Our floors look amazing, and we could not be more pleased with the workmanship. "I can't say enough about the wonderful job Doran Hard Surfaces did for us, and I can't wait to have them back again to finish our steps and upstairs hallway and then our second floor bedrooms. Greg from Doran did all of the work on his own in a single day. He was prompt, efficient, hard-working and dedicated. He was also professional, courteous, friendly and very helpful in describing caring for the hard wood floors. I can't rate them highly enough!"

"Refloor did a great job on my basement and laundry room floors. The salesperson was very knowledgeable and made picking a color easy. My old floors were scratched up because of my dogs but my new floor is definitely more durable. I definitely recommend Refloor to anyone that wants new flooring in their home, you won't be disappointed!"

Customers say: True professional

"Jim, his son and daughter work like a fine-tuned team. They did an awesome job installing our ceramic tile flooring in our powder room and relocating the main light fixture. I am looking forward to them completing the refacing of our old dark kitchen cabinets and installing the new flooring in our laundry room. Very reasonable prices and fantastic workmanship. I highly recommend them. Tony, Harmony, PA"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

There could be several reasons why your carpet padding has adhered to the floor. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • There was intentional gluing or stapling to the surface.

  • The polyurethane and floor bonded over years of wear.

  • Pet urine, spills, or other substances leaked through the carpet and created a sticky surface.

If the carpeting in the home has not been changed in a long time, clearing off the padding underneath could be difficult. Pet urine can wreak havoc on carpeting and the flooring underneath. If you plan to reinstall carpeting, remember to use proper cleaning techniques for removing pet urine odors to prevent future problems.

Berber is the most expensive type of carpet, followed by textured carpet. Berber costs $3 to $20 per square foot, and textured carpet ranges from $1 to $12 per square foot. Berber features fibers arranged in short, thick loops, making it extraordinarily durable. The most expensive carpet material is wool, followed by acrylic, Triexta, and cotton. Wool costs $4 to $20 per square foot and is a beautiful, luxurious, and durable material. Acrylic, Triexta, and cotton range from $2 to $8 per square foot.

Yes, installing laminate over carpet could negatively affect the resale value of your home. It’s no surprise that homebuyers prefer flooring that someone has installed according to industry standards. Laminate over carpet may raise concerns about the quality and stability of the flooring, impacting the overall perceived value of the property.

If you have a concrete subfloor, you must secure the carpet padding with adhesive or glue. However, if you have a wooden subfloor, use staples instead. Removing a glued-down carpet can be difficult and time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid glue when possible.

Avoid steam cleaning unsealed hardwood, vinyl, and laminate floors unless the manufacturer explicitly states that a steam mop can be used.
