"The team at Fireworx installed a gas fireplace insert for me. From the initial consultation and estimate with Bobby to the install with Andrew and Daniel was flawless. They were professional, clean, and came in under my budget. I’d highly recommend them for anyone looking for fireplace installations."

"Boy if you're looking for masonry work - end your search here. From the first inquiry to the completion of our project, they were responsive, respectful and do great work! They cleaned up any mess, they even rinsed my driveway. This is how it is supposed to be. We added a full fireplace wall of brick veneer and we couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you to the entire crew at Disciple!"

"Very nice guy, came and checked out and cleaned the pellet stove So it was one less thing to worry about come winter (and didn't get pellet dust everywhere!). He was in and out fairly quickly leaving quality behind which is hard to find. Would definitely recommend!"

"these guys are the best. They came out almost immediately. No one has cleaned the fireplace insert or the chimney like they did. I had absolutely no draft, another company wanted to charge me $600 because my chimney is not standard height. They had all the tools necessary to clean it all the way up, not like the last company that came out. They cleaned the woodstove shelf-no company had cleaned that before and left the house without a trace they were here. Very respectful of keeping the place clean as they went. Even made friends with the dog. I scheduled my next cleaning right away. These guys far out shine anyone out there. Highly recommend"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A well-constructed and regularly maintained brick chimney can last 50 to 100 years, potentially spanning multiple generations of homeowners. The exact lifespan depends on the quality of construction, materials, local environment, and maintenance. In contrast, a metal chimney typically lasts 15 to 20 years. While the main structure is durable, individual components have shorter lifespans and require more frequent replacement. For example, mortar may need repointing every 20 to 30 years, chimney crowns last 50 to 75 years, and liners can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years depending on the material (e.g., stainless steel vs. cast-in-place).

Deciding whether to buy a prebuilt fireplace kit or build one from scratch comes down to aesthetics, available space, and budget. Many homeowners like the convenience and lower cost of prebuilt options—around $1,500—versus the involved planning and construction of a larger fireplace. Another bonus: you can usually move prebuilt units. Custom projects are more common when homeowners have access to a larger budget and more area in the yard to place the fireplace.

In many cases, it is worth repairing an old fireplace. You can repair any portion of the fireplace, and even extensive repairs will usually cost less than a full replacement. Most fireplace repairs cost around $600 and top out around $2,500. Replacing your fireplace will cost around $2,500 and reach as high as $4,000. Not only will fireplace repair save you money in most cases, but the process is also much less invasive and time-consuming, so you’ll only have to set aside one day to be home for the work rather than multiple days.

While you have some flexibility in the types of wood you can use in your outdoor furnace, it's important to make wise choices for optimal performance and efficiency. Hardwoods, such as oak, maple, and cherry, are generally recommended for their higher energy content and cleaner burn. These hardwoods produce more heat per volume and tend to produce fewer creosote deposits, which can accumulate and cause a chimney fire, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Beyond having an inspection, it’s important to do chimney maintenance at least annually to be certain the chimney is safe to use. Cleaning the flue of any built-up particles, creosote, and soot reduces the risk of fire. Fortunately, the cost of hiring a pro to do a chimney inspection often includes a chimney cleaning, so you may not have an extra expense for maintenance.
