"The team at Fireworx installed a gas fireplace insert for me. From the initial consultation and estimate with Bobby to the install with Andrew and Daniel was flawless. They were professional, clean, and came in under my budget. I’d highly recommend them for anyone looking for fireplace installations."

"The whole process from start to finish was extremely easy. I submitted a request on their website for a quote to get some work done on the brick work on the side of my house. Within 2 hours I had a call back and an appointment to have an inspection and quote done. Kevin who did my inspection was on time, friendly and did a good job explaining everything they would do. That same day I had a proposal that was half the price of another company I had received a quote from. The work started the next day! Nathan did a great job keeping me informed with all work being done. It was a 2 day project and the work looks great. I couldn't be happier with my experience with disciple masonry. I can't recommend them enough!"

"these guys are the best. They came out almost immediately. No one has cleaned the fireplace insert or the chimney like they did. I had absolutely no draft, another company wanted to charge me $600 because my chimney is not standard height. They had all the tools necessary to clean it all the way up, not like the last company that came out. They cleaned the woodstove shelf-no company had cleaned that before and left the house without a trace they were here. Very respectful of keeping the place clean as they went. Even made friends with the dog. I scheduled my next cleaning right away. These guys far out shine anyone out there. Highly recommend"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A fireplace hearth is necessary in most areas per building codes, especially for gas and wood-burning fireplaces. Electric fireplaces may not require a hearth, so check local building codes or ask a pro for guidance if you’re leaning toward electric. A fireplace hearth can decrease the risk of flying embers creating a fire and burning your home down. That’s why fireproof material, like tile, is used for the hearth.

Depending on the model of your fireplace, you can leave your pilot light on year-round. This does use a small amount of fuel, so you’ll save on your energy bill by turning off the pilot light seasonally. Keep in mind that some gas fireplace models don’t have a standing pilot light.

Chimney crowns should be at least 2 inches thick at their thinnest point. If the crown is thinner than 2 inches, it’s more likely to be damaged and allow water to seep into the chimney.

Like any other household appliance, electric fireplaces can wear out after about 10 to 20 years. With more frequent use, the parts will wear out quicker, and you may get just 7 to 10 years out of a well-loved electric fireplace. Fortunately, electric fireplaces come with a lower upfront installation cost compared to alternatives like gas, so you can install a replacement for less.

You can complete some maintenance tasks on your own, including cleaning your gas fireplace. However, it’s still best to have a professional inspect your fireplace every year. When you hire a pro, they’ll take a thorough look at each part of your fireplace, including the gas lines and venting system, to ensure that everything is safe and working as it should.
