"We hired them to do a demolition project for us in spring 2021. They bid a fair price and finished the demolition quickly. TJ and his crew all seemed quite nice and friendly. The problem is they never finished cleaning up all the stuff that they said they’d take away. It’s been two years and I’ve been reminding him periodically, but I think it’s been long enough. If you use them just make sure you don’t make the last payment before the work is completely finished."

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better.   • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs. 

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

Gravel driveways last the longest. With proper installation and routine maintenance, they can last upwards of 100 years. For example, asphalt driveways last between 15 and 30 years, while concrete driveways last around 50 years.

Gravel is the least expensive driveway type, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. That said, you’ll likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year which can add up in additional costs over time. In addition, be prepared to regularly rake the gravel into place to keep your gravel driveway looking its best.
