Jim was very professional, friendly and informative. He knew exactly what to do and did all the jobs quickly without disturbance.

We initially hired Mr. Electric do the 200 amp panel upgrade but quickly realized what a great electrician we had so we asked for a quote to do other jobs in our home. The quote was very fast and Tom worked with us to get it in our hands and worked around our schedules to get the work completed. We are really pleased at all the work and will gladly recommend Mr. Electric to all. We will always use this company for all things electrical!

"He came early, which was a surprise....he did call to let me know, but I was asleep at the time and didn't get the message. He knew immediately what was wrong with our garbage disposal and fixed it within a few minutes. I originally asked for a free quote, so I was taken off guard when he wanted the $45 for coming out. Had to go to the ATM to get cash. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend Billy for any work that needs to be done. Very friendly and knowledgable. Also, he is very inexpensive. We thought we'd have to replace the disposal, and he said that we could pick one up for $100, and he would charge $85 to install it if need be in the future. Quite a drop in price, as we thought it'd cost about $300 for the project."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Electrical systems in Hershey need regular maintenance due to seasonal weather and local conditions. Schedule annual inspections with a licensed electrician to check for moisture damage, especially in basements and outdoor outlets. Test GFCI outlets monthly, and clear dust from panels every six months, as agricultural activity can increase debris. Replace surge protectors periodically to ensure your home wiring remains protected during Hershey’s frequent storms.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Hershey, choose copper wiring rated for high humidity and temperature swings. Use weather-resistant conduit for outdoor wiring, especially in areas exposed to freeze-thaw cycles. Select high-quality breaker panels and GFCI outlets for kitchens and bathrooms. Installing whole-home surge protection is wise due to frequent summer storms, and always use materials approved for residential use by local electrical contractors.

Helpful?

In Hershey, homeowners often skip required permits for electrical work, risking code violations and delays. Attempting DIY wiring in older homes without understanding local codes or the unique challenges of historic Hershey properties can lead to safety hazards. Many also overlook the need to upgrade outdated panels when adding new appliances, and forget to account for moisture issues common in basements near Hershey’s creeks.

Helpful?

Combining electrical upgrades with other home improvement projects in Hershey—such as kitchen remodels, HVAC updates, or basement finishing—can reduce labor time and minimize disruptions. Coordinating with your electrical contractor allows for streamlined permits and inspections. If you’re planning energy efficiency upgrades, like adding insulation or solar panels, bundling projects can help ensure your home wiring is up to code and future-ready.

Helpful?

In Hershey, hidden costs during electrical projects can include permit and inspection fees, especially if code upgrades are required in older homes. Accessing wiring behind finished walls or in historic properties may require extra labor. Moisture or pest damage—common near Hershey’s waterways—can add to the scope of work. Limited availability of local electricians during peak seasons may also impact scheduling and project timelines.
