"The company installed a complete system on a total remodel project in a prestigious area of Pittsburgh and performed as expected. The house was 110 years old and some adjustments had to be made but you can work with these guys"

"Jason was very nice, on time and wrapped the job up quickly. We already had the part he needed on hand to fix our problem so I can't honestly judge his work or his overall cost at this time. My experience was good, he seemed very knowledgeable."

Small jobs welcome

"Brian installed a dedicated circuit in our basement. Brian answered the first time I called. He set up a time to come and review the job. On the day he came, he called to make sure I was at home. He gave me a reasonable price for the job and agreed to do the work the following week. He came exactly when he said he would and performed the work in the time frame he specified. I am extremely pleased with Brian's work and would highly recommend him to anyone who is in need of electrical work."

Customers say: Quick response

"This project was the complete remodel of a split entry, three-bedroom house (in various states of disrepair). I was given a thorough estimate, and we reviewed the work scope in great detail. Even when confronted with some unexpected issues (items that were not obvious until we begin the demo) midstream, they gave me complete Information so that I could make an informed decision on how to proceed. Their work is excellent, they are reliable and easy to communicate with, they are proud of what they do and want you to be happy with the results. My project included general construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical assessment. I highly recommend Powerhouse and will continue to use them for my general contracting needs. As I recently told them, **you are my guys from now on!** Thank you, Clayton, JD, and Chris for a job well done!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Regular meetings, reviewing drafts, and providing input on materials help align the project with your vision.

If your project is complex, it may make sense to hire an architect to draw plans. An architect might also be a good person to hire if you want to ensure your plans adhere to building codes and regulations.

It can take anywhere from a few days to several months to draw up architectural plans, depending on the complexity of your project. Architectural plans are highly detailed documents that take time to complete, and any changes or alterations can significantly extend how long they take.

When you think about Arts and Crafts-style homes, you probably think of a Craftsman house or a bungalow-style Craftsman. Craftsman is one of the major styles developed during the Arts and Crafts movement, but it checks most boxes. Craftsman houses have low-pitched roofs, exposed rafters, open floor plans, and stunning wood finish.

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.
