"I would highly recommend ARS - Pittsburgh to everyone who is in need of HVAC work!! From the moment I reached out to them to install was 2 business days, and then a couple days for a follow-up visit due to additional work needed which was unforeseen prior to my new boiler installation. Each and every employee (Bob, Chris, Jay and Tomas) were phenomenal. We will definitely be using ARS - Pittsburgh in the future for when we are ready to move forward with our ductless air conditioning needs."

"I was hoping they'd be a couple minutes late, but they were right on time. Mr. Sullivan and his son were great. I had a lot of questions being a novice regarding air conditioners and Mr. Sullivan was very patient and explained everything I needed him too. Being able to get him to do the work so quickly was awesome."

"From the beginning talking with Chris to the end the process was amazing. Carlos Frank and Brenden arrived on time, removed and cleaned the all the registers, and of course the air ducts. A problem arose that was not caused by them, but the AC had an issue and they stayed as long as it took to resolve it. Paul was a huge help during this and even followed up in the evening. Phone calls were returned promptly, questions answered without hesitation and problems resolved! I haven't seen this from any company in ages."

"New furnace and AC installation. Shaun and his crew did a great job installing and the cleanup. The cost of the installation was very reasonable. One very important thing was Shaun and his crew interacting with me, the customer. Thank you Shaun, Rob and Bryan (Squirrel) for a job well done."

"I would highly recommend Built Right Concepts. I was looking for an estimate to replace my heat and add air conditioning. They showed up on time, provided an estimate on the spot and negotiated my hot water heater as a bonus to close the deal. I did get two other estimates for the same Carrier equipment and by far they had the BEST pricing. On the day of install Jason & John showed up on time. I requested adding an outdoor faucet when installing my new water heater and they made that happen too. The work done was neat, clean and professional."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Here’s how AC professionals will clean your AC coils:

  1. Unplug the AC unit or turn off the breaker to the unit in your circuit breaker box.

  2. Remove the faceplate.

  3. Spray a vacuum hose attachment or compressed air can to remove debris, dust, dirt, and grime.

  4. Use a soft-bristled fin comb to remove stubborn caked-on debris.

  5. Use the vacuum hose to suck up any extra debris.

  6. Take a coil-safe cleaning solution and spray it onto the coils. Try to choose a no-rinse solution.

  7. Let the solution sit for at least 15 minutes.

  8. Gently wipe away loosened grime and debris with a microfiber cloth.

  9. Reattach the faceplate, plug in your AC system, or turn the breaker back on.

HVAC companies may charge an hourly rate or a flat fee. Hourly rates typically range from $100 to $250 per hour, with an average around $175. Some contractors charge a flat fee for specific services, such as an inspection, which can cost between $150 and $500. The total cost of an HVAC service is influenced by several factors, including: the urgency of the service (emergency repairs after hours or on holidays cost more), the time of year, the type, size, and brand of your HVAC system, the specific repair needed, and whether you have a service contract.

There are several steps you can take to prevent your AC drain from clogging. This includes cleaning the drain line at least every three months, changing the filter every one to three months, and getting your AC serviced annually. Also, if any problems arise with your AC, hire an HVAC technician to deal with them ASAP.

Choosing a unit with higher BTUs can use more electricity if the BTUs are more than what’s necessary for your room size. However, choosing an AC with BTUs that match the size of your room or house, your unit will cool your space efficiently. On the flip side, choosing a system with not enough BTUs can cause the system to work harder to try to cool the space, leading to more electricity consumption and higher energy bills.

No, it's not safe to keep using your unit when it's frozen. Not only can running a frozen unit lead to damage, but it can also potentially overheat, making it a fire hazard. Therefore, it's always best to turn off the AC unit as soon as you notice any ice.
