"Never used Angie's List before, and Kibuk Tile & Stone did a great job installing the shower pan, water proofing the area and installing the tile. They worked hard and completed the job within the promised time frame."

"Tyler, the owner of Top Finish Tile and Construction, recently re-tiled our primary bathroom shower floor and the first row of wall tiles, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. He handled everything from demolition to building a brand-new waterproof shower pan, and his craftsmanship was outstanding. Tyler is incredibly meticulous—not just with the tile work itself, but also with how he treated our home. He cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day and was always respectful of our space (and very kind to our dogs, which meant a lot to us). What really stood out was how clearly he explained each step of the process. We always knew what was happening and felt completely comfortable having him in our home for the entire week. Tyler is not only highly skilled, but also genuinely great to work with. We recommend him without hesitation!"

"Dave Buck was exactly who I was seeking to remodel my kitchen, a local small family business rather than a national chain service. In fact, his company was the only such contractor I could find nearby. I am retired and spend most of my time at my property but this did not distract Dave, his work was focused, knowledgeable and precise. We collaborated on cabinet, appliance, countertop (quartz) and tile selection in order to tie it all together to my vision. He identified and repaired quirks in the old plumbing and electrical that had annoyed me for years, restoring peace of mind. Dave created a beautiful compact kitchen where there had been only a homemade plywood cabinet and sink (the house is 100 years old). He also improved my adjoining laundry room, adding cabinets and a sink. I really enjoyed the experience because Dave is personable, humorous, dependable and great with dogs! He can probably do just about any type of job as he personally built his own home here in Oregon and also does high end commercial work."

"We’ve hired Tony for multiple projects ; He built us a large shed, created a laundry room in our garage and even built a 700 sq ft ADU for us. We had him do the majority of the work and we did the finishes like tiling and painting. He was our general contractor and builder for the ADU. He was reliable and got the work done when he said he would. He communicated well and gave us options and ideas for making our projects better. His work is top notch, and I was never worried that he was going to disappear without finishing like so many contractor horror stories you hear. We’ve been very happy with everything he’s helped up with."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Grout and caulk are commonly used together, especially in bathrooms. Grout goes between the tiles and keeps them sturdy and in place on the walls or floor. Caulk goes in corners or where two different materials meet (like where the bathtub meets the tile) to create a waterproof seal. However, they are not interchangeable—you shouldn't use caulk to adhere tile and shouldn’t use mortar if you need a waterproof seal.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

Yes, but you’ll have to use some other type of tool to avoid damaging the tile and possibly injuring yourself. Some alternatives to tile cutters include a glass cutter, angle grinder, and wet saw. Depending on the tile material, you might simply be able to measure and score it with something sharp, like a carbide-tipped pencil, and break it off. Be sure to sand the edge for a smooth installation.

Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.
