Right after the deck was completed, we had issues with the boards warping and snapping the screws that were used to fasten it (this was a Timber Tech deck). We also had issues with several of the light fixtures not working that were installed as part of the deck. Jeff worked to get these fixed, and eventually had to replace all the screws in the deck (apparently Timber Tech required a specific type of screw to uphold their warranty). He also replaced several of the lights. This process took a couple months to finally complete. We have not had any issues since these were taken care of, and Jeff was very considerate during the whole process. But it was a hassle to deal with throughout the summer. In the end, I believe the issues were due to new materials that we selected from the manufacturer. I would not hesitate to use Jeff again in the future. He was very easy to talk with and listened to our wants and needs. He followed up with a quote that was within our budget. We accepted his bid and they began work in February. They were true to their word and very professional. Ron takes pride in doing everything the proper way. They removed the old decking and rails, installed new pressure treated beams and joists, leveled the deck, expanded our deck size, discovered, removed, and repaired some dry-rot on the exterior of our house under the old decking, installed new flashing to prevent future dry-rot, installed new decking and railing. The new deck is straight and true and beautiful. We couldn't be happier. Ron is currently removing a window in our laundry room and installing a transom window door in its place. We will use Ron for all our remodeling needs. When the deck was originally constructed some 14 years ago, siding had been removed at the surface of the deck and the deck boards had been installed flush against the underlying plywood below the siding. When we removed first deck board next to the house, we discovered it had become soft on one end from dry rot which allowed it to transmit moisture to the wall's exterior plywood. (Unfortunately, the deck had been built without flashing or sealing between it and the wall of the house). The plywood next to the deck was wet and soft in an area, say, 12 in. X 1 in. and appeared to extend up behind the siding. We stopped work on our deck to see about getting the wall of the house inspected for water damage, and make the necessary repairs before continuing our deck replacement project. We called Jozo Karlovic on Wednesday. He was finishing a job in Salem and came to our house to inspect the damaged area on Friday. Since Jozo could not tell how extensive the damage was to the side of the house without first removing the siding and cutting out the obviously damaged plywood, he offered to charge by the hour plus any materials. (About 1/3 of the total $384 was for materials). After inspecting the damage on Friday, he returned on Monday (July 5) and worked several hours until he had to leave to buy siding and other materials. He returned on Tuesday to finish the repair and replace the siding. Jozo cut out the exterior plywood in the next to the deck. Luckily for us, the studs behind the plywood were solid. At the level of the deck, he cut out and replaced the exterior plywood and the barrier between the plywood and the siding. He put in sealing tape behind the flashing he installed to run along the length of the deck, against the side of the house and beneath the first deck board, so it would be impossible for moisture to penetrate to the side of the house in the future, from either the surface of the deck or through a deck board. We also asked him to replace the siding both along the deck and in a couple of other places where the siding had been warped by sun and weather. Jozo was very conscientious, helpful, and is a real craftsman. We were very pleased with his work, we would hire him again for other projects, and we would recommend him to others."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/or/portland/euro-masonry-llc-reviews-2375633.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"ABSOLUTE PAINTING & POWER WASHING","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"OR","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"LARRY J."},"reviewBody":"Chris Miller is an amazing man! He listened to what I had in mind, designed the deck from scratch, put up with my repetitive questions, answered my concerns, obtained all necessary permits, hand dug the many footings, placed all the trusses, built the deck, ordered and installed the glass paneling, adjusted the cedar railing slats after we discovered that cats CAN get through a 2.75\" space, and otherwise just did a fantastic job--all of it working by himself, and much of it in temperatures of 105-107 degrees! He also did many repairs that were discovered to be necessary as we went along, including replacing a 10-foot section of cedar siding. I can't say enough about Chris's work or his work ethic. He was simply fantastic, and also a really nice guy. If you need deck work or general carpentry, you can't do better than to consider Chris for the job. Chad came out about two weeks after I contacted him (as he said he would). He was on time and pressure washed the deck. A couple of days later he came out and sanded and stained the deck; again he was on time. A day later when I looked at the deck it was blotchy and there were places where...

"Paul was always fast to respond with messages and answer all of our questions. He was polite, showed up and left on time, left the work area clean when he was finished, and did a complete tear down and rebuild in only 2 days! HIs bid was the lowest but his work is excellent. We will definitely call Paul (who had his son working with him) again for any of our future jobs. Highly highly highly recommend!"

"Had these guys put on a new roof. Roof leaked, toxic black mold where it’s leaked with ceiling damage in one of our bedrooms. Been 3 weeks since they came out to survey the damage. They’ve told me they subbed out the roof to someone else when they did it and they’ve let the other company know. I've inquired a few times and they keep telling me they reached out to the other company to let them know. Basically passed us off and we’re up a creek with toxic black mold."

FAQs for deck repair projects in Rhododendron, OR
While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct home features. Porches offer a roof that protects from the elements when coming and going from the house. Generally, porches are on the front of your home. On the other hand, decks are generally built in the backyard of a home and offer no roof or protection from the elements, like rain or snow. Porches typically require less maintenance and upkeep thanks to the roof, but both features require regular cleaning and repairs to maintain good condition.
There are a few ways to make your deck look new without professional power washing. First, you can use either store-bought cleaners or dish soap and water to mop your deck regularly to clean off accumulated dirt. To clean your deck and remove mold, mix two gallons of warm water with a ½ cup of distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar, rinse the area, and then scrub with a stiff-bristled broom.
For an average deck of about 300 square feet, you can expect to pay around $100. However, if you have a spacious 1,000-square-foot deck or more, expect that cost to be closer to $300 to $400. Likewise, if it’s been a long time since you deep cleaned your deck, the deck professional might need extra time and to use deck-specific detergent, which will increase the overall cost.
You should have your deck professionally cleaned twice a year—once in the spring and once in the fall. A springtime cleaning wipes away grime and mold that accumulated during the wet winter months, making it sparkly clean for summer use. Likewise, cleaning your deck in the fall allows you to wash away grease and leftover mess from the fun summer months rather than letting them soak into your deck over the winter.
The cost to build a deck is $8,025 on average. However, this cost can range anywhere from $1,500 to $22,000, depending on multiple factors, such as size, materials, and deck type. You can expect to pay $30 to $60 per square foot when building a new deck.
Cedar decks are often the most cost-effective option, ranging from $4 to $9per square foot for materials. However, pressure-treated decking, which is resistant to rot, is more expensive, ranging from $15 to $25 per square foot for materials.
