"Scott Paider of Western Edge Tree Service gave me a fair bid to cut down a very large tree in my yard that was rotting from the inside. He and his team cut down the large tree in one day and cleaned the site such that it appeared not to have ever existed. The job was done efficiently on the date promised for the cost estimated in the bid. I was very impressed and happy that I had contacted Scott Paider."

"This job was not easy as the tree to be removed growing very closely among homes & outbuildings. Mike & his crew did a superb job of maneuvering the gigantic lift in among other trees & obstacles in my small front yard. They worked very efficiently, professionally & quickly causing no damage to my home, yard or my neighbors yards & homes. They cleaned up my yard, hauled off debris plus sawed up large limbs & the large trunk into stove size for a low income recipient. They stayed on the time schedule & the cost estimate. I am beyond pleased!"

"Wade came out and removed a 75 ft douglas fir tree close to our front door. Did an absolutely great job. Would highly recommend him. Did everything you are supposed to for a customer and did it for a very fair price. friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, skilled and hard working. Should be called Paul Bunyan. He's got the skills."

"I am extremely happy with the service I received from Global Green Tree Service. The general manager, Allen Wilson, came out and gave me a free estimate on trimming two trees that hadn’t been trimmed in 12 years since my father passed. The price was very reasonable for what I wanted done. He came back the next morning and did a fantastic job. I am very pleased. He was very professional and courteous, showing his expertise in tree trimming and showing respect for what I told him about my dad’s work by doing it exactly the way my dad had always done it, especially since I had no knowledge of what needed to be done. I will be hiring him again once I’m ready for the landscaping of my front yard. My brother and neighbor commented on how well it was done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.

If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Costs reflect the size of the tree or shrub, the complexity of the task, location accessibility, and disposal needs, and comprehensive quotes vary accordingly.

Burning a tree stump can be effective, but it comes with safety considerations and isn’t always best for every situation. It's essential to check local regulations and assess the safety risks involved. Stumps that are near wooden structures or other non-moveable flammable objects aren’t good candidates for burning due to the risk of the fire spreading. Alternatives like grinding or a DIY stump rotting project might be safer and quicker for getting the job done.
